Opened in December of 2008, L'Artusi is the second step from the team that brought dell'anima to the West Village. Chef/Partner Gabriel Thompson and Beverage Director/Partner Joe Campanale share their expertise in Italian Epicurean Hospitality on a larger stage. Featuring rustic cuisine, a crudo bar, specialty cheese program, private dining room, and a walk-in wine cellar, L’Artusi offers guests a variety of dining options and a warm, friendly vibe. Our 110 seat restaurant, designed by Brooke Maples, features two floors of comfortable banquette seating, extended traditional bar, cheese bar and a chef's counter over-looking the open kitchen. Private dining opportunities are also available in our 2500 bottle walk-in wine cellar.

Amazing pasta, and holy kale!

I was very impressed. We went for a large company outing, and the setup was fantastic. Upstairs they have a room that can be sectioned off for events of about 15 people. The service was fantastic and the Italian wine list was voluminous. All of the pasta dishes that I tried were... read more

We were a party of 8 adults celebrating a birthday. 6:00pm reservation was the latest we could get on a Wednesday night. Where to start.. Cocktails: They serve Martin Miller's Gin (the best and hard to find), so off to a good start. We were seated at a table large enough to sit everyone comfortably, yet small enough to hear... More

Any restaurant that has a bright visible kitchen in the back that shines like a beacon welcoming hip, hungry guests is a place I want to dine. Atmosphere is understated but upscale with the most simple and delicious homemade Italian food. Chef accommodated my vegan diet with Orechetti pasta in a lovely shiitake mushroom marinara that was delightful. Recommend a... More

At a private party, we had a wonderful meal. We started with the dayboat scallops, potato gnocchi which was out of this world, and autumn squash ravioli. For the main course, roasted chicken and hanger steak were served. All was excellently done.

This place is incredibly popular, book ahead to ensure availability. From the outside L'artusi is modest but welcoming, on the inside it's a bustling scene consisting of open kitchen towards the back, dual-floor seating areas and an ever-present crowd of people waiting to be seated. Food was good, roasted mushroom appetizer definitely the stand-out part of the meal. Hanger steak... More

Nice place but food was bland. You are also not able to substitute sides or even worse take out an ingredient because everything is pre-made. After just visiting Italy in which everything was made fresh and customized for you, I am either spoiled or just not used to NY arrogance. Huge wine list over 100 wines to choose from many... More

The other reviews suggest we were unlucky. Waiter didn't know the comparatively compact wine list. The wine we chose wasn't available so they substituted another, more expensive one and charged us that. A couple of the dishes were fine but we came away with lingering taste of butter and salt. The place was packed, so maybe that's what others want.... More

We had the fortune of dining in L'Artusi last week. From the street, the entrance is totally unassuming. When you enter, POW! This is definitely a jumping scene. The menu is very sophisticated and we ordered probably the most conservative items on the menu. I have never tasted such exquisite ravioli - seasoned and cooked to perfection - ever. Anywhere.... I'm not entirely sure where to begin. L'artusi is one of the best overall restaurants with a great price/quality ratio. Sure you might have some better pasta somewhere in a 3 michelin star restaurant, but the experience from the moment you walk in until the moment you leave is unparalleled. Love the counter, love the open plan kitchen, and of... More

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
