Good food, pleasant but not great service

Nice location for outdoor cafe, people watching, and some time off your feet in NYC. Food is very good, but not brilliant - good mussels, great tuna tartare, so-so steak frites, good but not great calamari. Waiters very pleasant, but forgot some basics (like wine, coffee, dessert). Bizarrely not... read more

This restaurant offers a great french dinner in a very pleasant setting. Food is of very high quality and the service also is outstanding. They also make some great cocktails - and of course they are famous for their selection of Cognac,

I went there with my wife, we love French restaurant in general because the meal doesn't take up the whole plate, it's more nouveau Cuisine style. For the main course we had the Tuna Tarta and the Filet Mignon, both were good and recommendable. What we didn't like was when the waiter started to clear my wife's plate and cutlery... More

Service was good. Food was predictable and had fewer options than we had hoped for a "French Brasserie".

This French restaurant comes with a nasty French attitude. Me being a huge fan of French food didn't like this place at all. Starting with a server who wasn't really pleasant, and ending with the food itself. Steak frites dish was too dry, for example. And overall, food didn't leave a good impression. Wasn't tasty. Won't recommend this place. Don't... More

Located on the upper westside. Nice Bar, great service and food. Had the chicken salad that was amazing. Chicken was breaded and crispy. Will definitely eat here again when in the city.

We ate dinner here after a show and the food was delightful. Cheese puffs are a must. Good portion sizes and everything was cooked to perfection. Our server was attentive without being obtrusive. We would eat here again without hesitation.

A college roommate and I meet up for restaurant week each summer, and try a different place each year. We find that it's a low risk way to sample new places and new dishes. Brasserie Cognac did not disappoint. We both had the summer salad and porcini risotto; she had the coconut cream caramel and I had the peach Melba.... More

Tonight my wife and I ate dinner here and we were generally satisfied with what we ate. Her a la carte dinner of scallops and cucumber soup and a glass of wine cost $59 including tip and tax, and my3-course restaurant week dinner of escargot, hangar steak w/ fries and peach cobbler cost $51 including tip and tax. These days... More

Grabbed a quick dinner here after a Broadway show - the sirloin and filet perfectly done to my taste. Liked the cognac a - blaze presentation. Nice big froth on my c-chino too. Overall decent value and good food. I really give it a 3 & 3/4 stars btw.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
