Great South African Bar/Restaurant

Popped in for a quick bite and drink in Braai in Hell's Kitchen. Small(ish) room, nicely appointed, great wines (South African wines are always great IMO); and a nice menu. The Boerwors Roll at lunch is a great taste of SA.

This was such a letdown, a poor excuse for a South African resturant ! Only Non South Africans would think its good! The service was shocking and I found the food expensive for what was served. The waitress was clueless about South African food and wine in general.

This is a pleasant place for a drink- but the authenticity is questionable. The so called koeksisters were devised in some insane catacomb of horror- but not even remotely resemble the real thing…… The bobotie was a little better- but just average. All in all - nice place for a drink of South African wine- but don't expect South African... More

The menu is unique and the food is good and not overly expensive like a lot of restaurants in NYC. I definitely recommend it.

For this year's secret santa extravaganza, my friends and I wanted a boozy brunch. And since Braai has been on my Yelp bookmarks list for a while, and none of us have ever tried South African cuisine before, this place was perfect! We made a reservation for 12:30 on a Saturday. It wasn't packed but all the tables seem to... More

If you are expecting to come to a place that matches the website, you are in for s shock. I think it's the website for another place (menu and photos included) - the photos here on Tripadvisor are more reflective of the actual place including the "seasonal menu" which effectively is the menu. Having said that, the food is pretty... More

I struggled with the rating of this restaurant because there were several shortcomings, but the benefits outweighed the cost in my opinion. The food was excellent. Went for brunch and had some really fabulous french toast - with a honey syrup. Some of my more expeditious friends gave a try to ostrich sausage and another traditional sausage plate. Both very... I was somewhat between a three star and a four star with this place as honestly it was a solid 3 1/2 star visit. The only thing that made it not a four star for me was that the service was somewhat slow (it took an hour and a half to get through dinner and we had already told them... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
