Poor service and average food

The ambiance is very good. However the lighting was so dim inside the restaurant that I could barely see the menu. We opted for Tapas. Service was poor. Important to note is that the venison tapas is served raw. We were not informed about it and when I inquired with the server. It was almost like... read more

This is a great place to eat! The tapas are great! I have tried five so far. My favorites are the lamb chops and samosas. Try the ostrich sliders if you don't eat beef but want a lean mini burger. The grilled octopus is tender and juicy. My go to will always be the rock-lobster salad. That is my favorite!... More

I was looking forward to brunch at Braai but it was really disappointing. When we arrived, nobody seemed to know what was going on and we hoped things would come together but they never did. They were out of Marmite (?!) and the food was just ok. The atmosphere was weird even when the place filled up. The best thing... More

My wife and I were introduced to Braai by our South African son-in-law and wet my interest in traveling to South Africa for a safari. Braai started out as a wine bar serving South African bill of fare. Xai Xai was such a success that the owners decided to open a full restaurant a couple of doors down in the... More

As South Africans who lives overseas my husband and I were looking forward to eating some "home" food and taking our three children; who haven´t been to SA for many many years; to taste something that all South Africans love - boerewors rolls. We ordered boerewors rolls and flapjacks for my daughter. After waiting for almost an hour our food... More

I really loved the atmosphere of this place. The food was good, even verging on great but the service was pretty terrible. I really enjoyed the coconut truffle oil pap and an interesting way of doing crab cakes. I really enjoyed it. I don't think it was worth the value but it was a fun experience.

We went here because it was organised by some friends who Are NYC locals and they go there frequently. We had a great night there with them! Great company, great food and a really nice ambiance! Our friends ordered for us and we weren't disappointed at all.... In fact my daughter said the truffle Mac n cheese was the best... More

Made a reservation with open table showed up on a Sunday afternoon to celebrate my daughter's 13th birthday eating something different. Drinks are a bit pricey. Had the Tapas 5 for $42, with the meatball, macaroni & cheese, the fried chicken, peri-peri chicken and lamb empanadas. They were ok, soft drinks were pricey. Wanted to have some South African beer,... More

This was such a letdown, a poor excuse for a South African resturant ! Only Non South Africans would think its good! The service was shocking and I found the food expensive for what was served. The waitress was clueless about South African food and wine in general.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
