Truth be told, I am a huge fan of Indian cuisine, and Dakshin was the very first Indian restaurant that I visited when I was in New York 6 months ago. Other than the impressive menu with tons of authentic Indian cuisine (My favorite was their samosa & lamb biryani), I simply love the peaceful ambience! Definitely a very suitable... More

We enjoyed the food here. We ordered several of their long list of appetizers. Each was something out of the ordinary and delicious.

I gave this restaurant a very positive review when I visited it about a year and a half ago. Unfortunately, when I revisited it more recently, I was sad to find that it had gone downhill. Signs outside the door proclaimed that the restaurant was now kosher -- not necessarily a bad thing, since some of the other kosher Indian... More

There are over 100 items on the menu at Dakshin, the most popular is the Price-Fixed Buffet. The buffet is lavish. 2 types of Chicken, 1 Lamb, and vegetables galore make Cole Slaw, Naan Bread, Chutney, Basmati, and Cucumber Salad, Vegetable Salad and Fruit ready to complement and cool things. Wines are against he left wall, mostly Israeli and Mevushal. Had... More

This was our local Indian restaurant which we went to regularly. We loved the food - it was fresh, tasty, not too spicy and authentic. The service and staff were friendly. Then last night, was our FINAL visit there. It is now a Kosher Indian restaurant which is great if you're an orthodox jew - but this isn't an Indian... More

I went with my family from France, and they have never had Indian food before. I have been to this restaurant before and wanted them to taste how delicious Indian food is. They loved the food so much they went back one more time before flying back to France. I would reccomend the restaurant to everyone. P.S. - Its really... More

First time in the fall of 2009 my girlfriend felt sick after eating there (but she didn't attribute it to the food), and another time last night. The food looked and tasted OK - we had chicken tandoori and Palak (Saag) - spinach dish. I felt sick soon after coming home. The poisoning was so strong that I couldn't go... More

This is one of the few Indian restaurants I''ve visited that does both South Indian and North Indian specialties very well. We had a dosa (a big, South Indian crepe) and a curry (their "Chicken Chettinad" -- a chef's special) and both were very well done. (The "Chicken Chettinad" is heavy on black pepper and coriander, and had a bit... More

My favorite Indian delivery in the UES/East Harlem area, hands down. Prices seem pretty standard (about $10 for a vegetarian entree, rice and bread are extra), but they will make special orders if you ask nicely and clearly explain what you want. Best masala sauce I've had in NYC yet.

This place was wonderful, the service terrific, and the food extraordinary. My husband and I had the lamb vindaloo as an entree, and numerous appetizers. The servers were all darling and even gave us a complimentary dessert. The place is inexpensive, and the food is delicious. Truly a hidden gem.
