We stopped by "the Apartment" because our friends who lived in NY said we should. We were glad we did. We had to wait to get a table, but once we did, it was wonderful to sip an old fashioned cocktail and look at all the fabulous detail through out the room. There was a jazz trio playing and the... Got-to-see bar, and imagine this was the office of somebody "who in the past ran almost a quarter of the city" and where the phrase "being called to the carpets" originated - they say. Nice, good light effects, and the safe "of Mr. Campbell" in the fireplace, nice touch. Music good, staff friendly, drinks menu interesting: historic cocktails e.g. "Roaring... More

This wonderful, slightly hidden spot is a great addition to NYC's thriving bar scene. Set in a once-private office of a wealthy businessman, the space is open and elegant, with hand-painted decorative details restored from the Gilded Age, and a beautiful stained glass wall behind the bar. The staff are always professional and formal but also pleasant and smiling. The... More

Stopped by for a night cap after dinner at the Oyster Bar. This is a busy, happening place, beautifully done out in 1920's grandeur. The drinks are expensive, but large and perfectly made.

we went on a Saturday evening.. Buzzy but not overcrowded with a live jazz duo adding to the feel. Good to know... You can't book a table unless you're a group of 8 or more (we were 6). But we requested a table on arrival and got one on the main floor 20 minutes later... So while you wait have... More

I've lived in and around the NYC area for more than 35 years. I commuted through Grand Central on a regular basis for well more than half that time. Until this past weekend, I had never heard about nor had I seen any information about this place. Big mistake. It's a great spot to people watch and grab something to... More

Been here a couple of times for business receptions - and it never ceases to amaze me that this place is actually in Grand Central. The bar is great - and drinks are made to perfection. The décor has to be seen in person to realize its "wowness" Little bit like the Hearst Castle's rooms in décor and fixtures... Food,... More

Tucked around a corner and up a small stair case in Grand Central Station is a more intimate meeting spot for nosh and drinks, Campbell Apartments. There are two levels: one geared with small tables for two dining and up another small stair a full elegant bar room. Old world atmosphere. The spaces are on the small side and fill... More

I grew up in NYC, went to college in NYC, and have lived my entire life with 50 miles of Manhattan. I had never known of Campbell's apartment. It is a bar with light snacks that was once an apartment in Grand Central Station owned by the Vanderbilt family. It is one of those very very cool NYC places to... More

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
