It's loud! Get over it...

If you're in the mood for a quiet meal just don't come here. It is loud and full of energy. In a good way. This place has a real buzz and the food is a perfect reflection of this brash and casual environment. We had alotta fun watching the characters at the bar. My daughter and I stopped in for dinner on a Wednesday night. She is a city dweller and having visited the bar there, thought it looked like a good place for food. She was correct! We split a delicious Summer Salad. It truly is summery, arriving in a wooden bowl, very beautifully seasoned, with peaches, lots of crunchy things and... More

This small restaurant is full of surprises. The fired chicken is recommended but the porchetta was outstanding (just a little heavy on the sage. The most unusual thing was the bacon peanut brittle. This item was deceiving, it is actually peanuts coated in a light sugar syrup and sprinkled with bacon and some sage (?). The wait staff were great.... More

Walked a ton of blocks after accidentally getting dropped off on 13th street WEST instead of East, just to eat at the Redhead. I had been here last November and it was a greatly memorable experience. Not this time, however. I was so disappointed because I made my friends walk that far. The bartender was really nice, and was waiting... More

This little local hot spot was amazing... Too amazing, that no one would ever think to call ahead and make reservations for A BAR, but that is the only part you want to BEWARE of! Definitely call ahead and make reservations or you will probably not get a table. If you don't mind sitting at the bar like we did... More

The food was very good with a small menu. It is not really vegetarian friendly but the food was fresh and nicely seasoned. The place is very cozy but a good hangout spot.

We heard about this place on a food network show so made the trip to The Redhead when in NYC this summer. When you first walk in it kind of feels like you're entering a neighbourhood pub where you're the only non-local but the incredibly friendly staff and easy going environment made it a great place for us to spend... No matter what you have, start with the pretzels and beer cheese, they are amazing. For your entree, you really can't go wrong with anything. I've had the shrimp and grits, the burger and buttermilk fried chicken. I would walk to New York for the burger. The service is great, the interior is cozy. I would recommend a reservation. No... As a vegetarian I was pleasantly surprised by the beg options here. I liked the pretzels and cheese spread although the serving was small and not much more interesting than what you'd get at a stadium. The Kung pao broccoli was nicely spicy but a strange side to offer. The seats were way too close together for my taste.

We went there because of the good reviews - but it looked like a loud and noisy bar with drunk guys. And that at 9pm. Afterwards we went to a mexican restaurant nearby which was great and fair priced!:)

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
