We Loved The Redhead

We heard about this place on a food network show so made the trip to The Redhead when in NYC this summer. When you first walk in it kind of feels like you're entering a neighbourhood pub where you're the only non-local but the incredibly friendly staff and easy going environment made it a great... read more

No matter what you have, start with the pretzels and beer cheese, they are amazing. For your entree, you really can't go wrong with anything. I've had the shrimp and grits, the burger and buttermilk fried chicken. I would walk to New York for the burger. The service is great, the interior is cozy. I would recommend a reservation. No... As a vegetarian I was pleasantly surprised by the beg options here. I liked the pretzels and cheese spread although the serving was small and not much more interesting than what you'd get at a stadium. The Kung pao broccoli was nicely spicy but a strange side to offer. The seats were way too close together for my taste.

We went there because of the good reviews - but it looked like a loud and noisy bar with drunk guys. And that at 9pm. Afterwards we went to a mexican restaurant nearby which was great and fair priced!:)

Ate at the bar and the food and service was very good--have the fried chicken! The staff couldn't have been nicer.

I'm scared to tell you how great this little place is, because I want to go back! Yes, it is small (twelve tables, a high top, and some bar seats) and somewhat loud. We had a reservation and were seated immediately, but it was early - might be a problem later in the evening. They have an "early dinner" special... More

Excellent and hip place, according to Yelp. And that's what the first impression was. Hip, very loud small spot- like a hole in the wall. Waiters were efficient and friendly enough without going overboard. Came with a large group. Drinks: didn't have Draft Beer that night- only canned?! Food: Pig Ears- not the right place to order it from, too... More

A fun neighborhood place with an fun menu and good service. The fried chicken is good and so are the burgers. Servers all have a sense of humor and the patrons all seemed to be having fun.

Great little restaurant in the East Village. We were there on a very cold night. We had a reservation and were seating immediately. The place filled up later in the evening. The fried chicken is so delicious!. The pulled pork sandwich was the special and it was delicious as well. My daughter is a redhead so it was fun to... More

Hard to say with certainty since NYC dining scene changes daily, but definitely top three. Who would have guessed that the LES in addition to being the birthplace of the Momofuku empire would also lay claim to great fried chicken? But this Southern raised transplant has tried them all and thinks the Redhead has a strong case. I prefer dark... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
