This is a small restaurant/bar with good food. Positives are very good chicken, escarole, and salad. Everyone we were with enjoyed their food. Very good fish dishes as well and reasonable. The negative is it is tight quarters to eat in and very loud. Not expensive and if the noise level doesn't bother you by all means try it if... More

Small place but good food. Had the pretzels with beer cheese that were featured on diners, dives and drive thru's first and then the fried chicken. The beer cheese was excellent - pretzels warm and fresh! It was crowded but they did not rush us which is such a plus!

With a rating of 4-1/2 bullets (as seen above) from the diners voting on TripAdvisor, I was expecting a super-flavorful buttermilk fried chicken. When I tried it, I thought that there was no noticeable flavor or enhancement from the buttermilk. I got what I consider an ordinary fried chicken dish, no more moist than a fast food fried chicken. Along... More

Normally I expect to have some kind of potatoes and or greens served along side my fried chicken. The fried chicken and Redhead, #1 doesn't need anything to go along with it, and #2 comes with a slice of watermelon topped with pickled onion that proved to be the perfect accompaniment to the perfectly battered and fried chicken. I did... More

If you're in the mood for a quiet meal just don't come here. It is loud and full of energy. In a good way. This place has a real buzz and the food is a perfect reflection of this brash and casual environment. We had alotta fun watching the characters at the bar. The staff are wonderful: charming and funny... More

My daughter and I stopped in for dinner on a Wednesday night. She is a city dweller and having visited the bar there, thought it looked like a good place for food. She was correct! We split a delicious Summer Salad. It truly is summery, arriving in a wooden bowl, very beautifully seasoned, with peaches, lots of crunchy things and... More

This small restaurant is full of surprises. The fired chicken is recommended but the porchetta was outstanding (just a little heavy on the sage. The most unusual thing was the bacon peanut brittle. This item was deceiving, it is actually peanuts coated in a light sugar syrup and sprinkled with bacon and some sage (?). The wait staff were great.... More

Walked a ton of blocks after accidentally getting dropped off on 13th street WEST instead of East, just to eat at the Redhead. I had been here last November and it was a greatly memorable experience. Not this time, however. I was so disappointed because I made my friends walk that far. The bartender was really nice, and was waiting... More

This little local hot spot was amazing... Too amazing, that no one would ever think to call ahead and make reservations for A BAR, but that is the only part you want to BEWARE of! Definitely call ahead and make reservations or you will probably not get a table. If you don't mind sitting at the bar like we did... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
