A lot of thought has gone into this charming restaurant... I love the stylish opulent décor. The food also does not disappoint... they have a wonderful $14 tasting plate with lovely examples of Asia on a plate Their duck curry is a great example of this dish They also do an enjoyable Majito with Lychee, not to be missed but... My wife and I eat often at the Lanten which is only two blocks from our condo. They have good chinese and thai food and a lively bar. Make no mistake this is neighborhood not gourmet eating and makes no pretense of anything more. The value is good and they frequently have discounted specials. You must try the Shumei.

Went on a Friday for appetizers (6:30pm). Fast and friendly service, and not too crowded. Drinks were good ("Oriental Punch" and "White Tiger"), edamame was fresh, and the meals were as good as expected. The "avocado-tofu with massaman dip and tortilla" was much spicier than we expected, considering it didn't have a spicy symbol on the menu. I tried a... More

The attention was good, the thai beer was reasonably priced, short wait times, waiters were friendly. We have nothing to complain of about Lantern.

Happened upon this place last week. I love Thai food, and had no idea this was Thai until I read the menu at the door. It was crowded, but we sat at the bar to wait for a table and we browsed the menu. It's very pretty inside and well-laid out. We got a nice corner table and ordered right... More

There really is nothing special about this place, other than its location on a quiet stretch of Second Avenue at 18th Street in Grammercy. The food is typical, mid-priced Thai fare. Apart from a few standout appetizers, there is nothing on this menu that is either new or different from the ubiquitous Thai restaurants that dot the NYC restaurant landscape.... More

We eat a fair amount of Thai food and found Lantern to be unusually good - everything served hot and fresh. Some of the accompanying salads were combinations we have never seen before. Banana Tempura for dessert was sublime, and they serve real Green Tea Ice Cream - not that minty stuff you run into in so many places. Atmosphere... More
