We stumbled into this bar just before lunch looking for a cocktail before we made our way to our luncheon destination. The weather was frigid and it was wonderful to walk into a clean bright open establishment out of the weather (so many places are dark and dreary). Although many of the tables were taken there were places at the... More

Let's not get carried away with the food here... It's good, but then again you'd expect that at the prices charged. However it's not excellent and that's why it's only two stars after the shoddy service received today. Takes 5 mins of standing around to get noticed, we are then shouted to come over to the hotel entrance (rather than... More

Liked - onion soup, wedge salad, filet, kale and coffee. Disliked - having to leave. Kudos to Chef Achilles

We were staying in the Wellington Hotel and on our way to Central Park decided to try South Gate for our breakfast. The restaurant and staff are lovely and the food is absolutely amazing! The place screams high class and it is the perfect place for someone looking for that bit more than just to eat and go. A great... More

This great restaurant allows you to pick virtually any fine dining experience you desire! First, awesome food with incredible appetizers - try the shrimp to start, and the filet mignon! Next, you can pick an area of the eatery for either a romantic dinner, a business discussion, or the fireplace or bar area for socializing or watching a game. This... More

I stayed at Essex house a few years ago and ate here a few times even though it was snooty and disappointing. Staying at Essex House again, we ate here recently and found that it had improved! Similar style, but less hoity-toity-only-beautiful-people (it IS a Marriott) and better quality food. Thank goodness! DH, son & I enjoyed meals and drinks-with-nosh... More

Large space that feels void of any life--server was nice, was ok for drinks but not sure as a restaurant.

Whilst looking for some respite from wandering the streets, we came across this place. Although a bit "hotelish" it is a comfortable place to pend some time. We did find the service was a bit slow. Food was very good and a bit of a twist on most things. But...the cocktails were excellent. we had to enjoy more than one... More

We love this restaurant. Great food, great decor, great vibe... This is not a restaurant you hear a lot about. From a certified NY City restaurant foodie and snob I can tell you this is a great hidden gem. The service is also fantastic. Save room for dessert.

Passing this restaurant after breakfast at another restaurant, and judging by the decor, I had made a note that I should try it. It was a huge disappointment. I ordered oatmeal, which was described on the menu as served with apples, cinnamon and brown sugar. It came with none of those and when I requested some cinnamon and apples, only... More
