I stayed at Essex house a few years ago and ate here a few times even though it was snooty and disappointing. Staying at Essex House again, we ate here recently and found that it had improved! Similar style, but less hoity-toity-only-beautiful-people (it IS a Marriott) and better quality food. Thank goodness! DH, son & I enjoyed meals and drinks-with-nosh... More

Large space that feels void of any life--server was nice, was ok for drinks but not sure as a restaurant.

Whilst looking for some respite from wandering the streets, we came across this place. Although a bit "hotelish" it is a comfortable place to pend some time. We did find the service was a bit slow. Food was very good and a bit of a twist on most things. But...the cocktails were excellent. we had to enjoy more than one... More

We love this restaurant. Great food, great decor, great vibe... This is not a restaurant you hear a lot about. From a certified NY City restaurant foodie and snob I can tell you this is a great hidden gem. The service is also fantastic. Save room for dessert.

Passing this restaurant after breakfast at another restaurant, and judging by the decor, I had made a note that I should try it. It was a huge disappointment. I ordered oatmeal, which was described on the menu as served with apples, cinnamon and brown sugar. It came with none of those and when I requested some cinnamon and apples, only... More

It was March, it was cold, but Central park has its own beauty and ways to display foliage or not, warm weather or not, so after a walk in few path on Central Park, my friends and I decided for an early afternoon drink at the South Gate, great Mandarin Mimosa, and Bloody Mary too.

This place became our "local" while we were in Manhattan. At the end of the day after lots of sightseeing it was the perfect place to drop in for a glass of wine. The prices were what you would expect for Central Park however the service and quality of the wine were worth the price tag. The decor is stylish... More

I had one lunch and two breakfasts here. The breakfast buffet was not worth the price; nothing any more innovative or delicious on it than the items on any hotel breakfast buffet, anywhere. The salmon I ordered for lunch was excellent, and came with a lovely leek and cauliflower gratin, but that was it ... it was sort of a... More

With fabulous bartenders and a view across 59th to Central Park, it's a quintessential NY spot for a cocktail. Great for client meetings, too. It's worth the visit just to see their wine wall.

My wife and I ate at the South Gate while staying at the JW Essex House Hotel. The service, food and ambiance were great. We overlooked the park while dining and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I ordered the scallops with cheese grits and my wife enjoyed a hamburger. The cheesecake we ordered for dessert was out of this world. By far,... More
