Warm and welcoming

The people who really make this place are the people you meet in there. Drinks are great value for money, the piano is constantly playing and this creates a warm friendly atmosphere where everyone not only sings along but gets along too. My friend took me to this place as I was visiting for a few days. And wow! this was the highlight of my trip to New York City. The ambience was inviting, the singing and harmonies were beautiful and the entire bar had the most perfect sense of community. We joined in on the singing to our favourite musical numbers,... More

I dragged my other half here (kicking and screaming) and we had a blast! (Well I did!). Loads of songs from well known and less well known musicals, and everyone who new them singing along to the words - It was so much fun! We drank too much, and had too much fun and ended up walking around like zombies... More

This place is crowed (which is not always a minus) and noisy to the point that the piano was hardly heard. I am not American and unfortunately I didn’t knew all the songs they were playing, so I could hardly follow. My expectations were very high after all I have heard about this place.

I have been coming to Marie's Crisis since 1968 when Terry Hammond was at the piano. This bar is a city landmark where Thomas Paine once lived and wrote his book The Crisis. It then become a tavern in the mid-1800's owned by a woman named Marie, hence the name "Marie's Crisis." It has been a very popular gay bar... More

I was so excited about going to Marie's this past Monday night after reading review after review about how much fun it was. I love broadway tunes and standing around a piano singing and having fun with people from all over. I read a few negative reviews and figured those were just angry people and blew them off. I was... I had been looking forward to going to this bar for ages and when we finally got there i thought it was great.. that was until i went to purchase my third drink. I went up to the bar with a friends money and the round came to the exact amount she had given me. without being given a chance... More

My sister and I had one of our best nights ever in this little gem of a place. If you enjoy show tunes and a sing song go & visit we had the best time and fell upon it by accident. Cash only but the prices are so good. By all accounts many of the crowd do actually sing in... More

I came to Marie's Crisis with no expectations and it really was a pleasant surprise. It's tucked away below street level and is a cosy, friendly venue with great tunes!

You can drink and make merry whilst providing your own entertainment by singing along with other customers. From Mary Poppins to Ursulla from Under the Sea, no song is off the list. Had such a good time. Recommend Marie’s heartily especially if you’re a Musicals fan. It's not fancy, so if your after fine dining or drinking this is not... More

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
