My wife & I had a great lunch here while exploring downtown Manteo. It is a no-frills restaurant for sandwiches, soups & drinks. The staff were friendly and attentive. The sandwiches were made with care. And it was easy on the budget. Overall...a great place for a high-quality quick, nutritious meal. And for all you Jimmy Buffet fans, a trip... More

I have been to The Hungry Pelican numerous times during my trips to the OBX. Definitely worth the drive over the bridge to have lunch here and to check out the view of the waterfront. Their sandwiches are amazing, the soup (especially the tomato basil) is to die for, and the view of the waterfront is relaxing and serene. My... More

Took a ride up to Manteo. Visited many great shops including Oh Yappy Days! It obviously caters to dogs and was a fun store to go in. The owner was very helpful and friendly. He is the one who recommended The Hungry Pelican. We both had a cup of french onion soup and a garden salad. The soup was delicious... More

The Hungry Pelican has wonderful sandwiches. The bread is fantastic. I ate there twice whie on vacation. I got the French Dip and the Nutty Chick. Both were fantastic. Really nice people run the place too.

Stopped in for lunch and it was very good. Chicken salad sandwich for me and a Rueben for my husband. We both had the tomato basil bisque and it was all very tasty. The best part was that we got to enjoy all of the delicious food at a table overlooking the water.

The Hungry Pelican is a humble deli style restaurant that overlooks the Manteo waterfront. No frills but GREAT food. You might not notice it if you aren't looking but not to be missed. Tomato Basil soup was delicious and the Ruben was one of the best I've ever had. The corned beef was plentiful, lean and sliced thin. Just the... More

We stopped here for lunch in September. I ordered the Angry Bird sandwich and it was amazing! Raspberry chipotle sauce with turkey and pepper jack cheese on a cornbread type Panini. I loved it!

Stopped by this little gem of a deli today for lunch with my husband and mom. My husband and I had the special which was the Roast Beef New Yorker and to say it was delicious is an understatement! My mom had the sandwich called the Angry Bird and she said it was delicious as well. The sandwiches are made... More

We were visiting the Town of Manteo and looking for something lite to eat. We found this wonderful sandwich shop hidden by some of the retail shops. The food was fresh and everyone loved what they had chosen. There was 14 in our group and everyone was pleased. It is a whole in the wall type of place with out... More

If you are on the Manteo Waterfront, head to the Hungry Pelican for a great sandwich and soup. Kids lunch was great (including a drink, cookies and applesauce), vegetables were fresh and the bread was perfect. Tried the BLT and the Tomato Basil soup, and both were very good. Have tried Poor Richards before, and this beats them hands down.
