Searching for good ice cream in San Diego, we came across Mariposa. What made us drive 10 miles was the Mexican chocolate flavor, which is very hard to find. Mexican chocolate has a hint of cinnamon and we had never seen it in California before. You can find Mariposa on Adams Boulevard in central San Diego, not far from most... More

Searched trip advisor for the best home made ice cream in SD and tried Maripoa's. I was so glad I did. Nice sized dips and excellent variety of fresh ice cream. I tried the pistachio and loved it, very creamy, no fake colors and lots of nuts. Also loved the fresh waffle cone! Will definitely be back very soon!

Came here when it was raining and cold! Ice cream was still awesome, tastes like homemade ice cream with some freshness. It's not too sugary like Baskin Robbins or anything you get from the store. It's definitely a good place to get a quality scoop of ice cream at a good price. Only issue here is the parking, parking on... More

What a great little ice cream shop! I visited here on my vacation to San Diego. My family is pretty adventurous and trust me to find local joints to procure our food on the road, rather than frequenting the dreaded chains. The ice cream was great and service impeccable. We showed up on a late week night and things were... More

I've been enjoying Dick & Anna's amazing ice cream for years when I come to visit my father-in-law in Normal Heights. I was hopelessly hooked on Mexican Chocolate, my "go to" flavor when I can't decide, for ages, but have gotten adventurous in the past few years. Basically, anything with nuts or a crunch gets my approval. My wife is... More

Mariposa is one of those journeys back to a time when icecream was homemade and scooped out by a local couple of sages from the neighborhood. Select one of their flavors from Mexican Chocolate to White Chocolate Raspberry to Peanut Butter and Jelly. Sit down and remember the 60's with the Beatles memorabilia, Janis Joplin poster, peace rally posters, and... More

Mariposa's has bar none the best ice cream I have ever had. A spoonful is worth a thousand words. So instead of me writing, just go get a scoop -or two!

If you love all things Mexican, including your ice cream, I encourage you to try the horchata milkshake. It was quite refreshing. This small business is original with their ice cream flavors and sundaes. Definitely a great treat on a hot summer day!

This small shop has great counter service, in-house baked waffle cones, and the best ice cream we've ever had. We both noted that it was not hyper sweet. And for such lovely richness, it was not cloying or greasy. I had the peanut butter fudge and will go back soon to have banana walnut...or one of the other fabulous sounding... More
