La Piñata is like the food grandma made. Very authentic tacos, burritos and enchiladas. They also have many specialty dishes. Great margaritas! Very comfortable, family and kid friendly. Rosa is a fabulous waitress!!

When we visit San Diego, we love to go out for Mexican food. This dinner was clearly a miss for us. The nachos were very soggy. We ordered a dish with pork and it was big chewy chunks that clearly had not been simmered long enough. They were not tender or flavorful.

Although it was hard to find and get to (due to construction on the street in front), it was well worth the effort. We had a large group and they were able to seat us right away. The food was very good, including the cheese tortilla snack we were presented with almost as soon as we sat down. It's too... More

I love La Pinata! It's been around since I was a kid! My friends and I love going there because the food is tasteful and delicious and the guacamole.... Mmmmmmm big chunks of avocado made just right! and a cold beer to o along with it... need I say more! The staff are very friendly and service is quick. Their... More

This little place has been serving authentic, top quality Mexican food for a couple generations. When in town, we stop by to treat ourselves to the best chile rellanos ever devised - order it a la carte - just $6 - it's large and so flavorful - covered with sautéed onions and bell peppers, loaded w cheese and done perfectly... This restaurant is across the street from the major attractions of Old Town, and hasn't yet been really discovered by too many tourists. But the locals know about it, and my family and I have been enjoying dining here for years and years. The place is attractively decorated inside and out, with pinatas hanging from the colorful ceilings indoors. Outdoors,... More

If you're looking for a restaurant that feels like old Mexico, you will probably have a hard time finding anything that feels more authentic. The strolling musicians in the patio area added to the experience. The food is priced well and tasted good. The salsa that came with the chips lacked taste; it was all heat and little else, too... After a long day at the San Diego Zoo, we were ready for some great food and atmosphere. La Pinata did not disappoint. In fact, my whole family had an outstanding experience here. The food was delicious and affordable (a nice surprise after an expensive lunch at the zoo) and the service was great! The overall atmosphere was welcoming and... More

In Old Town, but not on the main road. It is where the locals go for Mexican food. It is not your regular american/mexicana but more when you would get in a Mexican home.
