We ate her with friends. We selected them based on the rating listed on Trip Advisor. We sat on the patio in late August with great temps. (100 degrees @ home)...They provided cheese crisp as well as chips and salsa right away which was a surprise. They provided water without asking and gave us a couple of pitchers. I thought... More

La Piñata is right off of Old Town. Very fun inside and nice menu selection. Good value and eggs are available anytime.

My husband has eaten here since the 50s. We used to live in San Diego and ate here every week. Now when we visit we always come here at least once. Great food, margaritas and service. Really cute atmosphere with piñatas all over the place and great decorations. They give you a choice of quesadilla (really a cheese crisp) or... More

I don't know how this restaurant earned any good reviews. The flan is instant Jell-O flan (no caramel and made in plastic dishes); the carnitas was dry and not seasoned; the margaritas tasted like cheap sweet-and-sour mix, even when I ordered them with Silver Patrón (and had them remade twice-- still they were not right.) The service was bad. The... More

Delicious food, fast service in spite of being near capacity, gracious servers in charming Mexican costume/uniform, Mexican music and troubadours giving table side serenades, nostalgic authentic Mexican decor and atmosphere, indoor and garden dining (we dined in garden), and very reasonable prices. Sign outside says this is the oldest Mexican restaurant in San Diego. Well worth the visit.

We met friends here...they bring out a cheese crisp as well as chips and salsa right away and we really liked the crisp. I also liked that since a couple of us ordered water, they brought us out a pitcher. I hate having to wait to have it refilled at a place with hot salsa! The food was very good.... More

We usually go here rather than going to the huge Mexican restaurant 2 doors up from it. We just prefer the more intimate setting at La Pinata. They have a small dining room and patio for outdoor dining, and some off street parking as well. The food is above average to very good, and the margaritas are also good. Not... More

Okay- I knew going into this that any of the Mexican restaurants in old town would probably be average due to the volume of business to tourists. I wasn't really prepared for the terrible margarita though. The atmosphere is great and the service is friendly and attentive. Just don't expect real Mexican food- unless you like yours over microwaved. Old... More

Very average Mexican food. Just ate here with the family. Service was slow and food was not very good. I have had better food and service here in the past, but this meal has me wanting to go most anywhere else in Old Town next time.

We are regulars at La Pinata! The food is wonderful, service friendly and prices reasonable. Our out-of-town guests always enjoy a lunch or dinner and request to go back on subsequent trips. It is very authentic and cozy, with pinatas hanging from the ceiling. One of the wait staff was voted "best in San Diego"! A very fun experience, as... More
