Great food and atmosphere.

Stumbled upon this place when some others were way too busy on a Friday night and were fortunate we did. Had a great authentic meal sitting outside on their patio on a warm February night- I guess life is not so bad!

This little place has been serving authentic, top quality Mexican food for a couple generations. When in town, we stop by to treat ourselves to the best chile rellanos ever devised - order it a la carte - just $6 - it's large and so flavorful - covered with sautéed onions and bell peppers, loaded w cheese and done perfectly... This restaurant is across the street from the major attractions of Old Town, and hasn't yet been really discovered by too many tourists. But the locals know about it, and my family and I have been enjoying dining here for years and years. The place is attractively decorated inside and out, with pinatas hanging from the colorful ceilings indoors. Outdoors,... More

If you're looking for a restaurant that feels like old Mexico, you will probably have a hard time finding anything that feels more authentic. The strolling musicians in the patio area added to the experience. The food is priced well and tasted good. The salsa that came with the chips lacked taste; it was all heat and little else, too... After a long day at the San Diego Zoo, we were ready for some great food and atmosphere. La Pinata did not disappoint. In fact, my whole family had an outstanding experience here. The food was delicious and affordable (a nice surprise after an expensive lunch at the zoo) and the service was great! The overall atmosphere was welcoming and... More

In Old Town, but not on the main road. It is where the locals go for Mexican food. It is not your regular american/mexicana but more when you would get in a Mexican home.

We've been coming to this place for over 30 years - still have yet to be disappointed. We always bring friends and family here when they visit. The patio is warm in the winter, cool in the summer. The staff friendly and attentive, the food, which comes way too soon for my taste, is always fresh and hot. Not much... More

Our family has been coming to La Pinata for at least 20 years now and it is always great. Love sitting outside in the courtyard, not sure but I think we have only eaten inside 1 time. The staff is very good some of whom have been there for many years. This is not a place that a lot tourists... More

La Pinata is on Juan Street, on the periphery of the Old Town Area in San Diego. It is a tiny, colorfully decorated Mexican restuarant. With it's friendly and warm staff, it's immediately clear upon entering that this is not a franchise, rather a place where the locals gather. There is a nice outdoor patio. We were given a choice... Nothing really fancy but very tasty Mexican food and a plate size that filled us up. The food arrived hot and quickly despite being a very busy Saturday night. Servers were not superior in any way but were friendly and helpful. We could return in the future but are likely to sample other Old Town venues first.
