Stopped in for dinner after riding bikes in Coronado and had a great meal. Chicken Enchiladas were outstanding and the beers were nice and cold. Food is priced fairly and the service was good. Our kids had carne asada and quesadillas and loved those dishes. We'd return in a heartbeat!!

I grew up in San Diego and never ate there. The last week we ate there twice. It is the best Mexican food in Old Town. It is the oldest restaurant in Old Town. Great people, very clean, great food at a very good price. You start off with chips or a cooked tortilla with melted cheese. For breakfast i... More

I am server and am pretty forgiving. We got forgotten and then not all the drinks came for our table making our daughter wait with nothing. Food was pretty good but not amazing. In a pinch I might try again but I doubt it. Carnitas were good but the kid nachos were stale and boring.

Been coming for years to this restaurant. It has a home style Mexican cuisine. Personally I like the albondiga soup. If you are looking for a great place to have good Mexican food in a home style atmosphere this is the right place for you.

Stopped in here based upon reviews from locals. This place is relaxed and has an on site parking lot which makes parking easy in Old Town. The restaurant has piñatas hanging from the ceiling and is small in size. Staff is friendly. The salsa has a fabulous kick and I enjoy spicy foods. You choose between chips & salsa or... More

Being from FL (where we don't really get Mexican food), I was not disappointed in La Pinata. The tamales tasted just like the ones I had growing up in CO. Would definitely go there again.

I regularly travel to San Diego for work. Years ago, around 2006, I stopped at Old Town for lunch. I had been to several Mexican restaurants in Old Town before. None of them were bad, but none of them were great. I went to La Pinata on the recommendation of a local. It was the best Mexican food I have... More

We visited Old Town in San Diego, and decided to eat at La Pinata, which is just outside the main Old Town area. Some of the restaurants in the center of Old Town looked mighty crowded, whereas this one was much quieter. For starters, instead of the standard chips and salsa, they offered us a "crispy quesadilla" which is essentially... More

My husband and I ate at La Pinata three times before booking the restaurant for our daughters rehearsal dinner, each of those times the food was good. The food served at the rehearsal dinner was no where as good as the other food we had previously. Chips cold and greasy, fish tacos were mostly cabbage, refried beans were crunchy and... More

Excellent food really enjoyed the atmosphere. One of the top 5 non chain Mexican restaurants per the flyer on the table and I can believe it. Delicious.!
