Delicious food, fast service in spite of being near capacity, gracious servers in charming Mexican costume/uniform, Mexican music and troubadours giving table side serenades, nostalgic authentic Mexican decor and atmosphere, indoor and garden dining (we dined in garden), and very reasonable prices. Sign outside says this is the oldest Mexican restaurant in San Diego. Well worth the visit.

We met friends here...they bring out a cheese crisp as well as chips and salsa right away and we really liked the crisp. I also liked that since a couple of us ordered water, they brought us out a pitcher. I hate having to wait to have it refilled at a place with hot salsa! The food was very good.... More

We usually go here rather than going to the huge Mexican restaurant 2 doors up from it. We just prefer the more intimate setting at La Pinata. They have a small dining room and patio for outdoor dining, and some off street parking as well. The food is above average to very good, and the margaritas are also good. Not... More

Okay- I knew going into this that any of the Mexican restaurants in old town would probably be average due to the volume of business to tourists. I wasn't really prepared for the terrible margarita though. The atmosphere is great and the service is friendly and attentive. Just don't expect real Mexican food- unless you like yours over microwaved. Old... More

Very average Mexican food. Just ate here with the family. Service was slow and food was not very good. I have had better food and service here in the past, but this meal has me wanting to go most anywhere else in Old Town next time.

We are regulars at La Pinata! The food is wonderful, service friendly and prices reasonable. Our out-of-town guests always enjoy a lunch or dinner and request to go back on subsequent trips. It is very authentic and cozy, with pinatas hanging from the ceiling. One of the wait staff was voted "best in San Diego"! A very fun experience, as... More

This restaurant is a regular for our family. Founded in 1920, it is also the oldest restaurant in Old Town. The food is great and it is one of the few restaurants in Old Town that has its own parking lot! That is a big plus particularly in summer when the crowds are largest. The staff is very friendly. You... More

I have been going to "La Pin" forever!! As a native San Diegan I have had Mexican food my whole life...and always return to my favorite, over and over. Located in "Old Town" it is the oldest restaurant in San Diego! And it has ample, free parking which is un heard of for this area! But it is the food,... More

The food at the restaurant is very good, and very reasonably priced. If you get there before 4 pm for the lunch specials, even better. Their Chilli Rellenos are the BEST. They do not come with any meals and have to be ordered ala carte. They are an option with rice and beans on the Friday lunch special. Fresh, homemade,... More

Not much different from other Mexican food places, but it was fresh and well-prepared. Staff was attentive and friendly. Good location to walk around after in Old Town to help your food settle.
