Quaint Italian restaurant with friendly staff and really good food! Lasagna and fettuccine were great. Close to the freeway.

Had a unexpected stay in Rancho Bernardo and just wanted to have a dinner within walking distance of our hotel. The chinese restaurant we initially planned to go to was closed so we decided to just look around and found Mama Cellas in a small strip mall and decided to give it a try, and glad we did. It was... I'm biased. I'm from New Haven Connecticut and although I've been in California since 1982, I still feel we have the BEST Italian food (pasta, pasta sauce and most of all the pizza) around. My 92 year old mother still makes the trek from her seniors' facility to go to Carmine's Tuscan Italian Grill in New Haven (I tell people... More

In a strip mall, surprised by quality and value of food. Visiting area for a wedding, about 8:30 pm, looking for something close to hotel. Place was very busy, but service spot on. Both pizza and pasta dishes were great.

The food was good (but my wife is Italian, so...) It is better than any chain Italian around here. My wife had the eggplant parm and I had the chicken parm to be safe on our first try. The eggplant was very good my wife said, and the chicken of the chicken parm was cooked just right. The sauce is... More

We were delighted to discover this gem in a local strip mall. We go at least once a week because there is no way I could replicate this food at home and we start yearning for it after just a few days. It is run by a family who are hard working and friendly.

I was in San Diego (Ranch Bernardo) recently, and stumbled upon this restaurant because it was walking distance from where we were staying. Being in a strip mall, my expectations were not very high. The service was really good. Our waiter was really good and was there every time we needed a refill. I was hesitant to just order the... More

I'm usually prompted to write reviews on restaurants when I experience a place that represents outstanding value, i.e. great food at great prices. Mama Cella's is such a place. Yes, its location is in the neighborhood shopping center and its interior is more for every-day dining rather than for formal occasions, but this speaks to the restaurant's potential for good... We were looking for a place for lunch before checking in at Rancho Bernardo Inn. We found Mama Cella's in a near by shopping center. Very unpretentious and cozy. They have lunch special for less than $7 and that includes a drink. Husband & I had a delicious sub-sandwich with chips and my son had a one topping pizza. With... More
