Right out of the 70's. You will love the bar area with the giant red leather cubbies you'll feel like your the only ones there. This place is old and worn but such an icon i give it a 4. Ive always received good service and the food is always above average.

Living in San Diego I,along with friends, have been to the Imperial House several times. Each time has been a special treat to celebrate an occasion..usually Christmas. The Imperial House reminds its guests of a premire East Coast eatery that sits here in San Diego. I bit pricey but worth it on any occasion. Both service and food are well... More

How many times have you said to yourself “What happened to old-fashioned service, extraordinary food, and a great location drenched with classic fixtures of yesteryear?” Well, it’s right here in San Diego on the corner of 5th and Kalmia streets. Last Saturday, while searching for a restaurant, not too far from the theatre, I selected the Imperial House. It’s not... More

If you want a drink in the bar on Th,Fr,Sa you are in for some entertainment because you never know what kind of a crowd you will find. The cocktails are generous, the beer selection is average, the wine selection needs help. As far as the restaurant... The dining room needs to retire - It just isn't able to serve... More

I have visited the Imperial House for years and the food and service are always excellent. The Steak Diane is the best in San Diego and you can't beat the Bananas Flambe' for dessert. Our waiter John was awesome and the hostess was very friendly. We miss the Maitre D, Mr. Felix and wish him a speedy recovery from his... More

The Imperial House is old time steak house atmosphere. Specials are fantastically priced and the Chateaubriand is perfectly cooked to order and served tableside. Wait staff is has the perfect balance between attentiveness and privacy. We always go here for special occasions. My comments apply to the main restaurant and not the dinner playhouse. Although some may say this is... More

This is a murder mystery dinner theater at the Imperial House restaurant near the west entrance to the world famous Balboa Park in San Diego. The dining room is arranged with 10 round tables that seat 10 people each for the murder mystery. The actors also double as your wait staff. During the show, they get many audience members involved... More

I think this is more of a local place. The food is good and the decor is fun. I think the I do like this place and have gone back but I would not recommend it as a tourist place to visit when in San Diego. I think San Diego has a lot of other places that MUST be visited.

The best thing about this restaurant is the Matre Di, Felix. He has been here ever since I started going which I think was in the 70's. He is a character and it is hard not to giggle when he rolls his rrrrrrrr's with a flourish. The name, Imperial may make you think that it is an asian place but... More
