I went here as Yelp said they had Xiao Long Bao, they do not. In retrospect, I'm glad. The Shu Mai and steamed shrimp dumpling (not Har Gow) are variations on same dumpling, with and without pork. Wrapper was properly thin, but filling was bland for each. The potstickers had extremely thick... read more

This is my go to place for what I consider the best dim sum in San Diego. Decided to try the chinese food for dinner last night. The service is consistently average at best, always a bit on the slow side despite it being almost empty as we arrived at 4:30. Ordered the honey walnut shrimp which was delicious. Good... More

I love this place. I came here with my girlfriend, her folks and some of their family and had a really good meal. Because there were so many of us, we ordered a bunch of different things to spin around ye olde lazy susan on the table and sample. Straight into it, the restaurant is brightly lit, but not too... We were visiting from out of town and our friend brought us here. We ordered few dishes to share and ordered one or two for our own. In the end, our bill came out to $80 for lunch for 3 people. Pretty pricey if you asked me but hey at least we left with full tummy. The food was good... More

I love china max, there is an amazing quantity of dishes, everything is so delicious; the Peking duck, Roasted duck, Kung pao chicken, General tso chicken, Rod cod filet in black bean sauce (so tasty). The mango pudding is like to be in heaven. China max has been the best Chinese restaurant for seven years in a row in San... More

Once again I wonder about some people, I read reviews of places that most say are great but a few act like they were force fed poison. Maybe they just had a bad day. We ate at China Max last weekend, I had seen it rated as best Chinese in the San Diego Magazine for several years but had never... More

I was in the area, wanted Chinese for a quick dinner. I found the place a bit off-putting. I am rarely uncomfortable alone in a restaurant; the staff was condescending and the place empty. I ordered spring rolls - they were nice and crispy outside, insides were heavy and gummy. The sauces came in two small dishes without utensils. I... More

It's an extensive menu, so you could order whatever you can imagine, but our waiter was happy to offer suggestions. The dry scallop fried rice was superb and went beautifully with everything else. The service was attentive and surprisingly humorous. We really enjoyed both our waiters and never lacked for anything. We ordered a half a roast duck, but could... More

We were introduced to China Max by a friend who is very knowledgeable about Dim Sum. This is a perfect Dim Sum choice for Novices to Experts. Wonderful food, great selection, menu includes pictures, our food was prepared for our order, the service was very efficient and the restaurant was very clean and contemporary. We will return often.
