The reason I'm giving this a "five star" is because we went here three nights and the staff was phenomenal the first two nights. There was one person who wasn't but as a business owner I understand that you can't control everyone. You just get these people and over time they'll get weed themselves out. We decided to eat here... More

Choice of one of our guests. I liked the building the best - authentic from Ireland. I should have had the Shepherd's Pie. Tasted my husband's and it was great. Instead chose the Boxty sampler at recommendation of waitress and was disappointed. Way too much potato and too little filling. The uniquely Irish potato pancake was heavy and not light.... More

It seems you had a bit of a mixed experience with us, Mary Kay. I'm glad you enjoyed our decor and the overall atmosphere of the pub, but I'm sorry you were disappointed with your meal. It's unusual for us to hear comments like yours about the boxty, so I can only guess that we were having an off-night when... More

My husband and I ate here while we were on vacation celebrating our anniversary. We went to Ireland about a year and a half ago and the food brought us back to that moment. The shepard's pie was amazing and the selection of Ireland beer is great, and the atmosphere is like being back in Ireland. Will visit again!

Looking forward to eating here based on other reviews, but was disappointed. I had the fish and chips which were ok, but nothing special or uniquely different from fish and chips at any other restaurant. My friend had the chicken entree which she said was very good.

I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed in your Fish & Chips. They're one of our specialties, and it's really unusual that we hear a review like this about them. I'm glad your friend enjoyed her chicken, but did you have any particular feedback on how your meal could have been better? If so, don't hesitate to give us a... More

A friend and I ate here on a whim while traveling. We knew nothing about it and were hungry enough to eat just about anything. We were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere: perfectly pub-like. The food was superb. we both had the shepherd's pie and it was probably the best I'd ever had, and that includes the several I had... More

Glad to hear you and your friend loved the Shepherd's Pie so much! It's one of our specialties, made with an authentic Irish recipe. Speaking of authenticity, I'm pleased to hear you also appreciated the pub's atmosphere. The pub itself, or at least the furnishings, bar and floorboards, was imported from Ireland. It doesn't get much more authentic than that!... More

What a great find in the Gas Lamp district of San Diego. The pub has that pub "feel".....dark wood, old wood tables, dim lighting and an Irish tenor with his guitar singing Irish and American music. Our group had a great time. We all had hamburgers and fries. The burgers were hefty and quite good - so were the fries.... More

We believe it's better to have more fries than you need than not have enough, Jane! I'm so happy to hear you and your group were so satisfied with everything here from the food to the decor to the entertainment. Glad you felt we had that real pub feel, since authenticity is one of our top goals. In fact, nearly... More

No need to miss a match if you find The Field. They have all the Rugby and Football from back home - just get up early and tuck into a genuine Irish breakfast anytime from 5am onwards. Only drawback is the $20 cover charge to get in. Otherwise, enjoy the Guinness, beer, ale and atmosphere as you mix with the... More

We're so glad to be able to provide a place for expats to gather to watch all the matches, Daphne. Nothing like a little piece of home in a far-off land. It's also good to know you're a fan of the Irish breakfast-- we've tried to be as authentic as possible. Finally, sorry about the cover charge, but we think... More

Enjoyed by three of us, a great evening, good food, good service and a bit of very nice tenor doping Irish and US songs. Started out looking for burgers, the places did not appeal, happened by The Field, menu includes burgers and a lot of other good stuff. Many beers and whiskeys to choose from. Really nice pub ambience, lots... More

I'm so happy to hear you and your companions enjoyed yourselves here! I'm especially glad you appreciated the pub ambience. Actually, the entire pub - all the furnishings, the bar, even the floorboards - was imported directly from Ireland itself, so it doesn't get much more authentic than this. Thanks for the review. Hope we see you again soon! Cheers,... More

We were in town for a weekend getaway, went to The Field on a Saturday night, got a table close to the bar. I had the Shepards Pie, it was excellent!!! My husband had fish and chips, it was good too! Our server was attentive but not overbearing, good beer - Smithwicks and Guinness! We'd definitely go back!!

A friend recommended we have lunch here. I don't have an accurate count, but I think there are at least 3 other Irish Pubs within two or three blocks of "The Field." First impression is this place offers a better experience at night, and that experience gets better the more Guinness you knock back. In the light of day, its... More

I'm sorry to hear you weren't a fan of our pub on your last visit here. Our goal is to offer an authentic Irish pub on American soil, so it's always disappointing if someone doesn't like it. As a real Irish pub, our furnishings were made and used in Ireland before being shipped to America, so they were always bound... More
