Description: For the past thirteen years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).

I've heard that the waiting line for this place can be insane at times but I came in at 5:15 PM (on a Wednesday) and was at the greeters station within a few minutes. They will ask you if it's your first time there and if it is they give you a sticker. Instaead of ordering a full dinner I... More

Wait time was about an hour on a Tuesday night, but 100% worth it! It was by far the best BBQ we have ever had. I can't wait to go back to San Diego to eat there.

After a day at Sea World we wanted to find a place to eat nearby. Our phones pointed us to Phil's. It was a good choice. The food was very good. The ordering process is a little bit unusual, but when you mention that you're a first timer they give you a special sticker to wear to tip off the... More

Everything at Phil's is top-notch, but when you try the baby backs, you realize people come and stay for the pork! Wish I would have spent my hunger on these babies (not to downgrade the very good chicken I had with the pork). Truly, you have to check these out, BBQ fan or not, get the sauce on the side... More

We came here on our last night on what was an incredible journey across California so we had tasted some pretty good food and I have to say we ended with the best! The queue should have told us this place would be good. We paid $15-20 each for half racks of pork/beef ribs and the portions were enormous. The... More

Long long waiting line. about 45mns waiting time in the middle of the day (during labor day week-end). You order at the counter and you go seat anywhere in the restaurant. They give you a buzzer and you go get your food when it is ready. We tried the beef ribs, the baby back-ribs and chicken. Both ribs were a... More

For all the hype, long lines and high tripadvisor rating I was expecting more. Meat itself is good, but sauce is average to OK at best. For me BBQ is all about the sauce and plain and simple it was not that great. My suggestion would be to have more sauce options.
