Description: For the past thirteen years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).

We tried Phil´s BBQ twice during our visit to San Diego. Both times the lines were long, and we waited a good 30 minutes. Concept is simple. Order at the counter, get your soda glasses and your buzzer. Find a available table and get your soda. Plates and a roll of kitchen paper are at each table. Very friendly and... More

Visited this restaurant with a colleague following recommendations on TripAdvisor. I have to say, I was a little disappointed as it felt more like a fast food place than a decent restaurant. That said, we found a seat at the bar to avoid the lengthy queue and selected from the menu. The food was great, my colleague had a 5... More

Very good sandwich with nice seasoning at the airport in San Diego. Actually too much food with two sides and refillable soft drinks. Red skin Potato salad was very tasty.

Wow... This is my new favorite place. My family also enjoyed it including the baby. The staff is so helpful and the food is excellent. There were no lines when we visited - lucky for us. The counter service is a great idea and even though you find your own table, drinks, etc. the staff never leaves you unattended. I... More

We went to Phil's BBQ due to the good reviews on tripadvisor. We all had the ribs, actually there is not much else to choose apart from chicken and some sandwiches. The ribs were really tender and the sauce was great but the total experience is a bit sloppy. You can't complain on the price though. As always you get... More

Based on the ratings, we gave this place a try. We were not disappointed. The place has the entire restaurant process down to a science - very efficient, very friendly. The ribs were amazingly good. We will definitely return here.

Phil's always has a long line to place your order. I had beef ribs that were really good but the meat is not BBQ with the sauce. The sauce is just poured on top. I had chicken the last time that was just ok. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Hello! Thanks for taking the time to write a review. Yes, our meat is BBQ'd in the sauce. We dip the meat in the sauce before we place it on the grill. The sauce then caramelizes on the meat. After cooking, we add additional BBQ sauce on top. We hope you come back and visit us again soon! Jory Spady... More

Ate at Phil's on a Sunday evening. Place was packed. The ribs, coleslaw and beans were outstanding. Got the full rack of ribs and it was a lot of food. I would eat there again.

This is the only barbecue restaurant I would go to. Their ribs and chicken are excellent. Their crew are friendly and helpful. Plan to go early in the day because it tends to have very long lines. Prices are reasonable. Try their tickler menu if it is your first time in the restaurant. Barbecue sauce is excellent and the meat... More
