For the past 17 years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. I've heard about Phil's for years and finally went last week for pork BBQ. I was happy to pay top dollar for really good BBQ (like the best BBQ in the USA -- in Memphis, Tenn.), but this wasn't the best and $10 a sandwich seemed high. Phil's BBQ is not really "real" BBQ. The meat was a bit tough... More

When a place has a WebCam for the line you have to wait in to go eat, you may need to plan strategy. The bar entrance is a good option. All the BBQ taste good. The sauce is ok but not "the best" in town. Service is good. Waitress are friendly. Just don't stand in line if you're starving.....

We were told that Phil's BBQ was a great place to eat, and measured solely by the wait time, it is. We waited about 55 minutes to get in, and the line got longer as the evening went on. The two of us had the same meal: the beef rib tickler. It was great. We loved the meat and the... More

I've been to San Diego a few times and wanted to try Phil's BBQ but never had a chance. This past trip we made it a point to go and try it! We went at 5:00 p.m. thinking we would have an early on a Saturday. Good thing we went early...we had to wait in line for an hour. It... More

The staff is extremely friendly, the food is very tasty just disappointed they don't have Mac and cheese it goes so well with bbq!! The ribs come with a lot a lot of sauce so if you're not a big bbq sauce fan, you should get it on the side. The line was not bad at all. Walked in at... More

If you're doing a Paleo diet, or just have a hankerin' for 'cued meat, it's difficult to think of doing it at the airport. Sure, there's really good branches of the legendary Salt Lick in various Texas airports, but I've experienced some pretty flaccid cue at airports around the country when I'm on a protein binge. So it was with... More

There's so many reviews on here about how good the food is. And it is. So I won't repeat it. But I will say the sign that state you're only 21 minute wait, it's actually more like 45 minutes. Once inside its all a bit hectic as so busy. Just a shame we weren't both hungrier as we didn't really... More
