For the past 17 years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).

Best ribs in town!

During dinner hour you will experience a long line that wraps around the building but it's worth the wait. Ample tables, fast service and efficient staff keeps the line moving quickly.

Phil's wonderful team of hard working caterers fought heavy traffic to prepare and serve a delicious dinner to a big crowd at Palm Beach Mobile Home Park in San Clemente. Mariana kept the drinks flowing, while Josie, Jasmine, and Rob fed the hungry masses. Can't imagine the stress level, but they never let it show! Happytizers were the hit of... More

Always a good option for BBQ! Rob platter with 3 ribs and sides come with. Good sauce not to spicy or sweet. Needed butter & honey for the corn bread! Don't visit San Diego with stopping at Phil's BBQ.

Visited in July 2015 - Had a recommendation and decided to visit. Be prepared to wait up to an hour to be seated. Staff were ok - fine once you place order but after that the staff at the tables seemed a little clueless and there were arguments over tables etc. Perhaps seat people at tables and then let them... Awesome BBQ - hearty portions - casual - family friendly. Quick staff move the line comparatively quickly to the length of the line. A must do in San Diego. Reccomend the appetizer as a meal unless your a 20 something male who is hungry 24/7😀

I ate there at the San Diego Padre game in Petco Park, they have a satellite stand in there. It was excellent, the ribs were fall off the bone and delicious. Great fries too and the macaroni salad was awesome! Next visit, we will absolutely go to the regular restaurant. Highly recommend!

I read the reviews and was hoping to find some half decent BBQ. I was amazed huge portions with great prices. I had the rips, smoked sausage and onion rings. Rips had great smoky flavor, fall of the bone tender and meaty. Best ribs i ever had. Smoked sausage was fantastic, great flavor. Onion rings were huge and delicious. Wife... More

This is some really good fall off the bone lick your fingers bbq. Lines are long but that's a good thing! Only wish there were more options on the menu (brisket, hot links, etc).

Don't go here! My ribs were burnt and almost completely black. The chips were also horrible. This was a let down as BBQ ribs are my favourite thing to eat out. I didn't eat any of the meal and all I was offered when complaining was a dessert or a gift card to re-visit, even though the waiter agreed they... More
