Description: For the past thirteen years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).

We do not make a trip to SD without a stop at a Phil's BBQ. They have a newer location in Santee as well. Get their early or be prepared to stand in line. It is well worth the wait. You can also call in your order to go. The prices are insanely cheap for the quality and quantity of... More

My boyfriend and I always look up Diners, Drive Ins & Dives whenever we visit a city in the States. Found this place through Triple D. We were told by friends to come early or wait forever in the line. While we weren't too early, we still had to wait about 45 minutes before we ordered our food. After that... More

I've gone on my own personal BBQ challenge. As an UBER FOODIE, during work travel, I ate my way to dozens of BBQ joints in Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Kansas, Louisiana, Virginia, etc. Everyone has their own technique. But whether you like dry rub or sauce, good barbeque really is whether the well-seasoned meat falls off the bone OR NOT.... More

I love a place that serves such good ribs and bbq !! The ribs are so tender and fall off the bone !! There is always a line to get in, however, they have a webcam you can go to and see how long the line is ahead of time !

If this is the best barbecue that's in San Diego then I feel sorry for you guys. The second my family arrived here we rushed over because we thought we were in for such a treat. I hate to say that I was less than impressed. The chicken was not cooked well. Baby back ribs were okay and so was... More

Phil's delicious sauce slathered all over everything barbecue doesn't disappoint those who have been lured in by the smell of the barbecue lingering along Sports Arena Blvd. all day. Everything is good there. Portions are very generous. Lines can be prohibitive. It's a good idea to call ahead (619-226-6222) for pickup rather than dine in most evenings. Closed Mondays. Three... We ordered and shared several orders if baby back and beef ribs with an assortment of sides and onion rings. Delicious, fall off the bone ribs. We took home the left overs to snack on at home. About a 20 minute wait, but we'll worth it.

First off, this review is for the AIRPORT location, so I'm sure there are some differences, though same name and branding so... First off, the employees were friendly, however I stood at the counter for several minutes waiting to order while several employees mingled behind the counter chatting with the kitchen staff, indifferent. After I was "noticed" the staff was... More

We landed in San Diego later afternoon so I thought we should head over to Phil's first for an early dinner and to also beat the lines that I've read about. I'm not a huge BBQ fan, but my husband is and he was disappointed. The portions of the food were huge, but we did not enjoy the smoked taste.... More
