For the past 17 years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).

Baby back worth the wait, but where's the cornbread?!

While in the area we drove by Phil's a few times and kept seeing the line around the building. That prompted us to want to try it. We weren't disappointed! First we spoke to the hostess to ask how long the line might have to wait. She told us there was immediate seating in the bar side of the restaurant?... More

Best Q ever! Be prepared to wait in line if you go any time around dinner. Large portions, fall off the bone ribs, tri tip shaved thin like deli meat, great bbq beans, tasty sauce, etc, etc, etc. Wish I had found it sooner, cuz I'm going home tomorrow. Would have given it 6 stars if I could.

In SANTEE, CALIFORNIA THIS PLAVE WAS busy, busy, busy. Make certain to bring you comfortable shoes. You will be on line for hours!!!, but the food is well worth the wait. We at at the bar. The downside is Phil 's doesn't offer any type of bread( hush puppies, cornbread muffins , yeast rolls ) this was disappointing.

This place is great. Beware the large portions. It is popular every night of the week. You wait in line, order, get a pager, find a table, then get your food when the pager goes off. Take out is quicker. Even the small sampler plate (tickler) is a full meal. The beef ribs are massive. Fun atmosphere. My third visit... More

I have been here so many times and it is the best BBQ place ever. My advice is to be very hungry before you get here. The portions are big and the taste is fantastic. They need to open another location or two because the only problem is it can get pretty crowded.

We have been in San Diego only 4 days and have already eaten here twice. We have dined in and done take out (The ONLY way to go on the weekend!). We tried the Beefy Ribs and the Baby Back Ribs, can't go wrong with either. With the beef ribs, three bones is a good size serving (I ordered five... More

I was looking for food at the San Diego airport. Went by all the (5?) restaurants in this part of the airport during a 4 hour wait. Went back to this one and glad I did. I don't eat beef or pork, so why I am at a BBQ? I got the "chick tickler". The girl at the counter was... More

There are few things I would wait in line on the street for hours to get. My driver license on the date it expires may be one, but not BBQ ribs, no matter how good they may be
