For the past 17 years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).

Yum!

Very good! The line was long and it was a bit of a wait but worth it. I ate way too much. Worth a stop if you're in town. Easy parking.

This is very much over rated. I have had better BBQ in San Diego. The portion size is very large but the BBQ itself is just okay. Not highly recommended much better places to eat in San Diego this isn't worth the wait.

Deliciously succulent pulled pork, and the BBQ sauce is the best I've ever had - though it can get a little sickly after too much! Portions are huge, staff are friendly and the sides are excellent too - especially recommend coleslaw and onion rings.

The food is fantastic! Phil has his BBQing down to a science. The meat is very juicy, then add the sauce on top of that and *BAM* you have a solid BBQ meal. The sides are also very good! Just be ready to wait if you go to the Sports Arena location. My advice is call in the order and... More

We are really looking forward to their new location in Rancho Bernardo. Meanwhile we went to San Marcos and enjoyed our selves. Our cousin was in town and he let us order our favorites and just ate. He really enjoyed the entire dinner and he is a BBQ aficionado. Dinner was great I reccommend the Big Beef Ribs and the... More

I love the "road house" type of atmosphere. I expected boss hog to walk thru the door at any minute. I had high expectations after reading the reviews on trip advisor, and let me tell you it's better than you could ever expect if you are a BBQ fan. The ribs are fall of the bone tender and just the... More

Great ribs at Phil's! We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Phil's. Loved the new location :) Busy place...they start lining up about 5:30 or 6:00 and they have a fairly large dinning area. It's worth the wait...Enjoy the BQ

Hands down best Bbq in San Diego. Prepare yourself for a line...but totally worth it. If you are in a rush call ahead. Beer on tap is a plus. I recommend the brohym sandwich and fries. Yummy can't wait to go back!

My co-worker told me about this place. She and her husband will occasionally drive down to San Diego just to dine here and then return to home to Los Angeles the same night. So we had to try it. We ordered the beef ribs, tri tip, a hot link, potatoe salad and baked beans. Everything, I tell you everything was... More

This was our first time there and by seeing the day before of how packed it was and long line we was curious so we decided to go and was greeted with niceness and helped every way we needed. The food was so good and the portion was worth the money. Will love to visit again next time we come... More
