For the past 17 years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).

Take home a sack.

Been here before, some of the best eats around. Go here before the concerts at the Sports Arena, or just to sit with friends and enjoy the food.

We were so excited to try Phil's BBQ ribs. But the waiting line was way too long. And we travelled with kids, so we decided to have it to go. The ribs is so yummy and the spicy sauce is just right for me. Especially, the onion ring is the best onion ring that I even had.

These ribs are perfect! I would eat them everyday if I lived in SD. While the wait was a bit longer then you would like it was well worth it. We also had a delicious pulled pork sandwich with some potato salad. The only thing that could make Phil's better would be a spicy version of their BBQ sauce.

Phil's has great food, environment, and bar! The staff is always friendly. It does get super busy on the weekends but it is definitely worth the wait.

Phil's has several locations in San Diego County. We have been to many of them. We both eat in and order take out. There BBQ is very tasty. It is particularly good to order as a take out for a picnic with a group. You can call ahead which makes for easy pickup. The place gets very crowded around lunch... More

We waited in a long line for average overpriced food. We were a group of seven and we were not impressed. The chicken was dry so you had to dip it in the sauce and beans were not sweet as reported but very bland. People in our party also order the spare ribs but there was no meat on them... More

Just back from my second visit here... wish I could eat here every night. The El Toro tri-tip sandwich is one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten. The fries are so damn moreish, as are the beans, slaw and immense onion rings. Shame I live 5300 miles away!

We had the best time here. Yes its true from the time we got in line to when we got our food at our table was over an hour but so worth it. I highly recommend the Pork Ribs and coleslaw. The sauce is so good that you just want more and more of it. If you don't like sauce... More

The food was amazing and completely worth the wait. The wait to get into the restuarant can take its time, so be prepared. However its well worth the wait. The food is amazing and plentiful! The ribs were some of the best ribs I have ever had!
