Description: For the past thirteen years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).

This place gets by on reputation. The food is not that great. We are sill searching for the barbecue restaurant in San Diego that will match the places we have been to in the Midwest (Kansas City/Saint Louis/Dallas).

Saturday morning at the Kobey's Swap Meet and lunch at Phil's, it doesn't get any better than that. Unless your lucky enough to order the El Toro Char-grilled tri-tip sandwich! Big portions, friendly staff and great food. Get there early, the line wraps around the building at lunchtime.

My altime favorite place to get BBQ when down in the Point Loma/ Loma Portal area. Beware, the line will be long and usually wrapped around the building. My recommendation is to sign up for the email club and call your food in. They won't make it until you get there and pay but at least there is a shorter... More

A group of us rode the trolley down to try Phil's BBQ in San Diego. I had the Baby back ribs, slaw, fries and wheat beer. It was a great dinner. I recommend trying the Onion Rings too. yum.

No doubt this is one place you must visit on your trip to San Diego if you are a non-veg. Usually there are very long lines, sometimes even more than 1.5 hrs wait. The food is great, ribs unbelievably juicy and tender. You will regret it if you miss it.

We always come to Phil's whenever we're in SD. The ribs are awesome, the portions huge and the staff great. Yes they'll be lines but it's always worth the wait. Any tourist visiting SD go here one lunch time or evening, it's great!

The food is as good as it smells! Delicious! My favorite is the pulled pork sandwich. They will serve it without the bun if you like it that way. I prefer it without the bun otherwise the bun soaks up the good juices! Ask for extra BBQ sauce too. The onion rings are awesome as well!
