For the past 17 years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).

Best ribs. Tends to have a long line, but the wait is worth the meal. The onion rings are great as well as the beef ribs.

They have ribs, pulled pork and chicken. If you want those you will be pleased. I personally judge BBQ by their brisket. They put on a little too much sauce on the ribs so I would ask for it on the side. Get their coleslaw. It has the best dressing on it. The service is prompt even though you do... More

Phils is really one of the best BBQ places in So Cal. The portions are enormous, you walk up to order, pick out a seating place and wait for your order to come up. The food is great and ginormous.

Was given a recommendation to visit this place by a local who claimed he "knows his Bar-B-Q". He certainly must, 'cause this was terrific! It's a little different than we're used to, but in a very good way! No point in trying to explain it, just go there and you'll see what I mean. We took ours away and had... More

We visited with relatives when we got to San Diego. We thought the El Toro sandwich was good but the ribs were great! I enjoyed the potato salad and onion rings too. We shared two entrees between 3 people and had enough food to sample and we felt full enough.

Our hosts really raved about this place and could not wait to get us to Phil's. With good reason! Admittedly you have to face a long line wait, but IT IS WORTH IT! Fantastic ribs and sides plus amazing value and great atmosphere.

We live in Orange County but when in town we visit this location of Phil's. We usually order the same thing - the baby back ribs and the chicken dinner. Both come with two sides and you can get extra sauce on the side since they don't have it on the tables. Food is called when ready and is hot... More

This is by far my husbands favorite BBQ joint. I had a family reunion catered by Phils, and needless or say, I had very happy guests. My out-of-towners are jealous because they don't have Phil's in their city! Thank you Phil!!!

Great food as always. Always stop in every time I am in town. Get the sauce in the side to really taste the good bbq meat taste.
