For the past 17 years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).

More than the best BBQ

This place uses high-quality ingredients and a stellar secret sauce recipe to create consistently delicious food. The Rib-less dinner is always divine! And I like that they sell wine from a San Diego winery - the wine was quite good (granted, my expectations for the wine were low since I was at a... read more

We stopped here to eat while running around San Diego and absolutely loved it. Really cool setup to ordering and getting your food. It is a must if you like BBQ and are in the San Diego area.

I don't understand all the rave reviews on Phil's.. every serious BBQ (or Q) fanatic knows that there is no place in REAL BBQ for Baby Backs... The BBQ here is commercial rubbish, made for families and the uninitiated. The ribs are grilled & not barbecued. Yes the meat "falls off the bone" but if you cook any rib long... More

What else can I say? Great food, friendly service, I ate an entire rack of ribs and all the fixins. Go there during off times, even on Monday at 5 pm there was a lineup.

Easily the best BBQ in all of San Diego. There is always a line but it goes pretty quick so don't be discouraged. If you are over 21 you can bypass the line by going directly into the bar area. It too is usually crowded but I find it is quicker than waiting in line and if nothing else you... More

Came here on trip advisor reviews and loved every minute of it. Went for the beef ribs which were delicious and massive. Also tried their colossal onion rings which didn't disappoint. Only problem now is its so far away from me that I can't go back !!

Phils is a go to place in San Diego. The portions are huge which helps to make the food a good value! The lines get long so be there when they open but the food is worth the wait!

This is a great place to lick your fingers. Love the ribs. If you don't like ribs the pulled pork sandwich is also a winner...huge...so be hungry.
