The Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego is chock full of great restaurants. Lots of competition. For a great Italian meal with exemplary service and comfortable ambiance, choose La Strada. This Tuscany inspired restaurant is in the heart of the Gas Lamp. Although the interior is very cool, I like to dine on the sidewalk terrace. I usually go for the pasta. It's al dente and delicious. The wine list is very good but the waiters are not well versed on pairings. more

The food was good, but something you could get at any typical Italian resturant. The price was pretty high for what you get but since this resturant is in a highly tourist location I expected prices to be a bit inflated. What really ruined the meal for me was the service. Just ate at La Strada last night and everything you've read about the overpriced and underwhelming food is true. There is a $25 per head minimum here which given the price of the food is not hard to reach. A friend and I started with ceasar salads one with shrimp and one without for $8 and $13 respectively. I didn't find La Strada that bad. I will agree, it was overpriced, but I felt I had a huge portion of food. They had a large menu of choices. more
