Variety of dishes, a Mexican soup that I have not eat in a long time very well cooked tasted delicious, the rib French style with wine was cooked in a medium way that sometimes is difficult to find, dessert was European style very well decorated, the wine well served, just a great dinner.

With huge windows right on the waterfront you couldn't find a better place to enjoy delicious Southwest cuisine. No refried beans and rice here! The food was beautifully presented and very flavorful. And the House Margarita's were great!

Dinner at Candelas in the Gas Lamp area of San Diego. There was a large convention in San Diego and since the convention center is next to the Gas Lamp area it can get very crowded. So Candelas become full after we began our dinner and it was very noisy. We had a steak taco appetizer and it was was... More

Given all the choices in San Diego, this one was just so-so; you can do better. The server was pleasant but not especially competent. The food was unobjectionable and unmemorable. What else need I say?

Went with some colleagues after conference. The main course portions looked OK but the slices of cake were ludacrisly small and cost $8.50. I would try to get into another restaurant. At least Candelas is still open after 9pm.

I really like this restaurant. There's actually two of the same restaurant one's in the gaslamp area the other is on Coronado. But both have totally diffent menus same owner though. The food was great. I had the crepes stuffed with crab and lobster meat with peppers and cheese. Delicious! My only criticism is where we sat. You can sit... More

The walk thru the bar to get to the main dining area reduced my expectations of what to expect. The looked like many like Spanish styled tavern in the Gaslamp. However, the food was surprisingly good. The shrimp timbale starter was very good and the cilantro favored sauce with the salmon was excellent. The filet was very large and generally... More

We were in San Diego for a conference and a group of us went to Candelas in the Gaslamp district for dinner. I've been there before and generally thought the food was excellent if a bit expensive. On this visit, it seemed like the restaurant might be getting tired. The black bean soup is supposed to be their specialty, but... More

I have eaten at Candela's several times, and it continues to be one of my favorite downtown San Diego restaurants. If your in town for a convention, it's an easy walk and I highly recommend it. Don't go expecting standard Mexican fare though. This is a high end restaurant with eclectic, non-traditional Latin food.with some European cooking style thrown in... More

I would eat here again. A+ to presentation, taste, food quality, ambiance, A to service and price. Ask for a patio seating. It makes it that much better.
