We read about the restaurant in the San Diego Magazine in our hotel room. It listed a veal recipe that I had never had and had sounded wonderful. We found the restaurant (about 7 PM on a Friday). My husband and I decided to try a new restaurant last night so we went to Little Italy and wandered a bit. We decided to try Zagarella because the menu looked interesting. We got fooled by the pleasant atmosphere and decent soup/salad. The entrees were horrible!! I ordered a seafood risotto because it is not always on the menus here... more

Zagarella is one of several restaurants in a strip of them in San Diego's Little Italy. It is not an inexpensive meal, and others who are more familiar with San Diego restaurants might be able to find equal or better food for less, but it is not a bad meal, and we felt lucky to have found it. My husband and I, second-generation Italians from Pittsburgh, thought we had eaten the best Italian food at our tried-and-true restaurants back East. But Zagarella's really surprised us. We had, truly, the BEST fried calamari in our lives at the restaurant. They have some nice pasta dishes, too. They are less expensive than some of the trendy places that now line... more

Don't waste your money....Bread is old and dry, anitpasto salad had SWISS cheese - have they ever heard of Fontina or Asiago?? Veal Marsala tasted like PORK and was SWIMMING IN OIL - Chicken Saltimbocca was disgusting - A TOTAL WASTE OF $$ and time!! more
