I'm a longtime fan of El Agave's location on the edge of Old Town in San Diego, but within the past year they've opened in Del Mar on Highway 101. The décor is less quirky and more elegant in a relaxed, high end California way, with views of the ocean from its second floor perch in a shopping center that... More

The 8 minute cab ride from our hotel on the Embarcadero brought us to a fabulous restaurant. First the food.My husband has spent quite a bit of time in Mexico and he was in heaven with their choices of unique mole dishes. I had a traditional mole poblano and he had a smokey mole, we didn't leave a drop.Of course... More

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. It doesn't look like much on the outside--up above a liquor store--but it is cool and quirky with great drinks and the biggest display of tequila bottles I have ever seen. The food is excellent, too!

Best margarita (and biggest tequila selection) in San Diego! The location is a little odd, on a main street away from the center of Old Town and above some other businesses, but once you get inside- it has a very cool vibe- more refined than similar Mexican restaurants in the area. The food is a delicious and the service is... More

I suppose it's a bit ironic that with all the Mexican restaurants clustered together in Old Town, San Diego, the best by far is a short walk out of the neighbourhood and up San Diego Avenue, just past Crazee Burger. El Agave is located on the second floor, above a liquor store, and appears to have the largest collection of... More

If you love tequila, this is a must do when in Old Town San Diego. The food was wonderful and portions were more than sufficient for a reasonable price. El Agave is worth the short walk down from the main strip of Mexican restaurants.

This place is beautiful from the moment you walk in the door decorated in old dark wood and hundreds of old tequila bottles about the walls of ceiling. We sat at the bar to enjoy some tequila then eat dinner. You can spend some serious money on the high end tequilla but they have a wide variety to choose from.... More

This is a unique restaurant that combines character and great food for an incredible dining experience. The restaurant is upstairs and does not look very special from the outside. As you enter, the walls and ceilings, are covered with the largest collection of Tequila that I have ever seen. Although it may sound corny, it's very cool. I felt like I... More

Many varieties of tequila, great service, and even better food. A little up the main drag, but worth the extra couple of block walk. Go hungry because the portions are very generous.

Went to the restaurant on labor day evening. It is fairly new and occupies the space previously used by several other restaurants that have gone out of business. It is across the walkway in the Del Mar Plaza from another restaurant that has been in business for years. The location is great, plenty of parking and a great view of... More
