We just returned from a brief business (my wife's, I'm retired) trip to San Diego. We had stayed at the Grant and were pleased with the improvements. We generally dined in the Gaslight area and tried the Asti. The staff were the best and the food delicious. If you decide to dine here, first try the "Fritto Misto con Calamari"!... more

Nice atmosphere. Restaurant caught our attention, since once again, it was the only one busy in the gas lamp at 6 pm on Tuesday night. Our waiter David was outstanding. Started with a shrimp and scampi appetizer - $18, but was outstanding. For dinner we had lobster ravoli and veal parmesan - both great. Total bill was $120 without tip,... more

Decent service, nice atmosphere and location; they did offer half portions on pasta which is nice. Panevino next door is better though. more

We had dinner at this restaurant before attending a Padres' game. Our server was Mark and he was wonderful, very funny and attentive. We had dinner at a restaurant a few doors down a couple of nights before and I was disappointed with the food. Asti was not disappointing at all the food was excellent. We started with the Caprese... more

We were walking in the Gaslamp trying to decide on a place for dinner. We decided to try Asti, because it was the busiest place at 530 on a Friday. We thought it must be good. We were not disappointed. Our server, Mark, was terrific. He gave us great recommendations all around. We had wine, beef carpaccio, sea bass, swordfish,... more

When dinner for two comes to more than $130, and there isn't a lot of wine involved this ranks as expensive. However, the service was absolutely wonderful despite a party of 20 that arrived part way through the meal. The chocolate souffle should be ordered at the beginning of the meal and is worth having a smaller dinner to save... more

This is a very expensive spot for Italian food in the Gaslamp Quarter. We're talking $24 for Carbonara, folks. Now I don't mind dishing out the dough for a great meal, but our dishes were very average. I've had much better italian at places more moderately priced. That being said, you can't beat the location. You're right in the heart... more
