One of our mandatory stops for a meal in San Diego is El Indio. They have delicious, traditional Mexican food. They make their own chips, which you can buy by the bag; the guacamole is so very amazing; the tamales are the best we have ever had. We also had wonderful tacos, enchiladas, beans and rice. We were once again... More

My daughter and I ate here and thought it was very good! I had the seafood burrito and it was awesome. The chips seem to be homemade and they were great. Ate at a couple of Mexican restaurants and never could get a halfway decent queso dip...wonder why?

After seeing an episode of Diners, Dives and Drive-ins, I had to try this place. I would classify the Mexican food as Very Good, but there are other choices, just down the road in Old Town that I consider better. Atmosphere is simple, nothing fancy and is a little noisy.

I wanted to try this place after seeing it on DDD a few years ago so when we were in San Diego last week, we ate here. I had some taquitos with guacamole as well as beans and rice and was disappointed. My husband had basically the same thing and he wasn't real impressed either. I thought the food was... More

Just finished eating there and the food network bombed again. The food was mediocre at best. I had the chimichanga and there was no flavor what so ever. My wife had the chili relleno and it came out as an Anaheim chili not a pablano. This is 1 step above fast food and less tasteful than taco bell. When I... More

After visiting the SD Zoo my family decided Mexican food sounded the most appealing. Remembering on "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" I looked to see how far we were from El Indio; low and behold only a few short miles away so we headed that way. Upon entering, our mouths were watering. The aromas from home were all around us. The... More

Was recommended by a local and we were happy we went after our trip to sea world! The Chimichanga was delicious along with a chicken quesadilla. Loved that they were heavy handed with the guacamole too!

Consistently great Mexican food. Be prepared to wait in line briefly. All take out. Casual public seating outside the restaurant. Get a dozen taquitos at a time. Near Downtown San Diego.

I went to dinner with my uncle and his family. All I wanted was good Mexican food. Mike said we had to go to El Indio. The carne asada burrito was excellent. It was the best carne asada burrito I have had outside the Imperial Valley. I added a shredded beef taco, my wife's favorite food, to see how well... More
