Great Mexican grill on the edge of Old town. A 1940’s diner where you order at the grill, then wait for your order and take it to a table. There were a lot of locals there which is a good sign. This place has been featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. It is inexpensive and has a variety... More

Anyone who has lived or visited the area will at one time or many times have visited this historic place. A hole in the wall really but that is what makes it special, great food at reasonable prices. Where all teens growing up in San Diego had late night taquitos.

Just came back from a trip to Southern California and of course one of the things we wanted to find was authentic Mexican food - by accident we found El Indio and it was a great mistake - OMG - this was amazing and you could tell my the line at 3:00 in the afternoon - I had 2 vegetarians... More

Came here first in 1967. Had a meat and bean burrito. It was so hot the internal steam made it move so one of my friends named it the pulsating burrito. I've probably had 300 more since then so I obviously like them. Back then I think they were 50 cents each and beef taquitos were 2 for 35 cents.... More

I absolutely love this place! Everything I've had is wonderful. The chile rellenos, taquitos, tamales, machaca burritos, and on and on..... are delicious. If the line is long, they'll hand out warm, fresh tortillas with butter - just like mom does. This place is legit.

don't expect linen tablecloths ensign glasses f this place value however if you after authentic mexican food at really cheap prices then this is a place for you. We came 1 lunch time on weekday and the place was packed and it took a while to be served but the food was worth the wait. If you're in san diego... More

YUM YUM! This was my first visit to El Indio and I certainly can say not my last. Five of us got five different breakfast burritos and each of us were extremely pleased. We got them to go and as we were leaving one of the guys working chased us to the door to give us a free butter filled... More

A great place for Mexican food and full of locals which is also a good sign. There is no table service - you place your order (can be a massive queue) and then collect your order when your name is called. The food is well priced and tasty with free flowing salsa available at the bar. Watch out for he... More

A friend took me here last weekend. She raved about how delicious this Mexican restaurant is. It's been around since 1940 so they must be doing something right. I am sorry to say I was under-impressed. The restaurant is bright and clean, the servers are very pleasant, the bathroom is clean. The food.....is average at best. I had the carnitas... More

Fresh, warm, authentic Mexican food. Place your orders at the counter and then stake out a table across the street. You won't be disappointed.
