Family and I decided to eat here after seeing it on DDD, so glad we did. Actually ended up eating here 4 or 5 times on this trip. Everything I had from the taquitos to the huevos rancheros was delicious. Every single time I go to San Diego from now on I will be stopping here.

They make their chips in-house, and they are fantastic! Their beans are yummy, as is their rice. The fish burrito was a bit weird, but it tasted good. I've never had beans and guacamole in my fish burritos before, so it threw me off. The carne asada was apparently very delicious. The portions are good for the price, and they... More

El Indio is super casual Mexican eatery, nothing fancy. But here is where the superlatives begin. They just serve the best homestyle Sonoran Mexican cuisine around (as featured on DDD). Our faves are the burritos and chimichangas. Large portions and just oozing with perfectly spiced delicious food. From past experiences the tacos, enchiladas, and taquitos are great as well. Many... Very good food, my kids don't like mexican food (blasphemy) but they love the taquitos. Carne Asada burritos are great. Be sure to grab extra fresh tortillas to bring home.

We eat here every time we visit Diego. (Pretty sure only the coolest call this town Diego, don'tcha know?). Just kidding-- we're just a family of Zonies who love San Diego and love breakfast at El Indio. Everyone is always super friendly and the food is invariably yummy. And the chips are the best!

This place has obviously been around a long time, and is a well oiled machine. Good food, and fun to see a local place that is doing well. Clean, well kept up, and great staff. Enjoy a little local flavor!

We didn't know what to expect with this unique restaurant, but it sure did not disappoint. You walk in - place your order - gather your utensils - grab a table and wait for your food. I wouldn't care if the wait was 5 hours!!!! Altho, it won't be. The food is divine. If you have not eaten good California... More

When traveling solo I seek out Diners Drive-in and Dives joints. Unfortunately that doesn't always work but it did today. Guy F was crazy for the house made chips and he was right. They are unbelievable. The only bad thing is I'll never be able to eat supermarket tortilla again. I had the Chili Relleno with a shredded beef taco... More

The history of the place makes it a must stop, the food was good not great and the soft drink choices were very good. As other reviewers have stated there is a lacking in spice, not for heat but for flavor. All that being said, I would go back. If you visit San Diego you should go and try it... More
