I went to dinner with my uncle and his family. All I wanted was good Mexican food. Mike said we had to go to El Indio. The carne asada burrito was excellent. It was the best carne asada burrito I have had outside the Imperial Valley. I added a shredded beef taco, my wife's favorite food, to see how well... More

Went with a group of 7 and ordering was quick even with questions. Order taker was friendly and helpful. Everyone ordered something different and we were all pleased. Very affordable for 7 people.

Ate at El Indio after seeing it on DDD. The place certainly gets a lot of hype, and for the most part lives up to it. Our group of 7 ordered the tamales and the taquitos primarily. Both were perfect. I also had a hard-shell taco which was great. Generous portions, came out quick. Not the best mexican food in... More

We had to try El Indio since seeing it on DDD and The Travel Channel. To our surprise the food was very underwhelming. Our expectations were so much higher since it had been featured on two tv shows. I love the old building and the outdoor patio area, but the food is nothing different than every other Mexican restaraunt in... More

This place is GREAT.... It is just North of San Diego and North of the Airport, and right off the highway... The place has been in operation since 1940 and the old style value and care still shows.. The atmosphere, food and service were all great and best of all, you can walk across the street and eat at nice... More

The last couple times we've gone to San Diego, we've made a point to go to El Indio. We even brought someone local who's never been and she loved it too! The housemade chips are awesome, salsas are just the right amount of spicy and there are so many different options!

Closed to the airport. We got out rental car and went directly to eat at El Indio. Recommended by our shuttle driver who loves Mexican food and he was right, great food! You order in line and they call your name when order is ready. While ordering they buttered a fresh tortilla and give it to you to snack on.... More

Ok, this is the best Mexican restaurant on the planet, bar none. The food here is simply amazing. The chips are fresh - you can watch them make them. The guacamole - order more. The overall taste and quality is A++. Authentic as authentic gets. The seating is like a McDonald's restaurant and most of the people are like in... More

The portions were generous and food, best Mexican I have ever had. Well worth the long wait. Prices were extremely reasonable.

I grew up in San Diego and was fortunate to have many meals at El Indio. It is a must visit when I go home! I recommend it to anybody who travels near downtown San Diego. I wish they would ship their cheese quesadilla's!
