Anthony's Fish Grotto's was established in 1946 by Mama Catherine Ghio. It set and continues to set the standard for fresh seafood dining in San Diego. Mama believed it letting the freshness show through and not using overwrought and fussy preparations. Fresh seafood simply prepared. The waterfront Anthony's sits atop piling over San Diego Bay. The views and sunsets are spectacular. The large dining room can accommodate families and large groups and the Lounge/bar area is perfect for that more intimate dining experience. The menu features an array of seasonal fresh catches along with a multitude of favorites from Fish n Chips to Lobster Tails. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options are available.

I was seated at a table in this restaurant at 4:30 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was not busy and there was no wait to be seated. After about 10 minutes of waiting at my table with no waiter/waitress, I began to wonder why I was being ignored. I waited an additional 5 minutes and then walked out,... More

Dear Craig: I would have walked out myself! Totally unacceptable! I have printed out your comments and distributed them to every team member. That time of day is the switch over from lunch to dinner staff and that is no excuse, we've only be doing this for nearly 70 years. I apologize and hope you note what happened to you... More

If you are in the San Diego bay area this is the place to go. Conveniently located near the USS Midway museum it offers breathtaking views of the bay. Generally I don't take my family to Seafood restaurants as I am the only one who enjoys seafood but we all found something on the menu and all enjoyed our choices. Cost seemed reasonable, food was good and setting great.

Why not eat and have a view of the ocean! Anthony's has a dine in restaurant and a fast food area off to the side. Both are worth a visit for great fish and great shrimp.

We found it expensive and expected fresh seafood. Didn't seem fresh. Nice location but much better choices nearby. Seating was cramped.

Disappointed to see your comments. Normally I don't get defensive and with our volume and 6 day a week fresh fish delivery I know our items touted as fresh are just that, fresh! Regarding pricing, we know our competition and we are the same as or less than other waterfront restaurants so the price comment is simply not accurate. You... More

After walking along the promenade from the neat shopping area called Sea Port and nuzzled between the USS Midway and the Maritime Floating Museum, you will find Anthony's Fish Grotto. The staff are very friendly and they seat people along the window first before they fill the tables in the centre. An extensive menu for anything sea food. There is... More

The place for sea food, great service and terrific view. Introduced by old friend and longtime California resident have made it a point to eat there when in San Diego. Celebrated wife Judy's birthday last year and am going back again this year. It's a ways from Minnesota but worth the trip!

Glad you enjoyed dinner at Anthony's and the escape from chilly Minnesota. It's so nice to hear that Californian's and our locals recommend Anthony's to their friends visiting our fair city. Hope spring comes early, you deserve it! More

An old fish restaurant begun by Great grandfather Gio (I think) This is located on San Diego Bay close to the Star of India, the old square sailing ship. The food is excellent, the prices very competitive. The service is usually very good. Be prepared to wait.

Thank you so much for dining with us. Glad you enjoyed your selections from our fresh catch menu. Though we are located in a tourist area, we've never considered ourselves a "tourist" restaurant. Our favorite is when we have locals bringing their out of town guests in for dinner, a very common occurrence at Anthony's. Again, thanks for the kind... More
