Reliable supper before opera

We have eaten here before the opera several times and it can be a challenge when there is a crowd. The food and drinks are very good -- we mostly do salads and sandwiches or tacos. Service is good even when they are crowded, but you need to schedule time if you are going to Civic Center for opera... read more

Location across from Civic Center cannot be beat; however, go early before popular events and recognize that this is a BAR that serves a limited menu (but great craft beer) and proceed accordingly. We were quite entertained watching the parade of patrons attempt to find tables and receive service prior to last night's production of IF/Then (with Idina Menzel). It... More

This was the perfect place for dinner prior to enjoying a play! My granddaughters love the food and our server was very fun and friendly

We were very disappointed with our recent visit to TGI Fridays in downtown San Diego/Gaslamp. Being native San Diegans my husband and I were strolling downtown and decided to have lunch at TGI Fridays. This chain holds a special place for us since we met at the Mission Valley restaurant over 30 years ago. My husband was craving the potato... More

My wife and I went for a light dinner at Downtown Johnny Brown's just before a performance at the San Diego Opera. The menu consisted of the usual pub type food and beer. Unfortunately a busload of tourists came in and the place was overwhelmed. The wait staff was very friendly, but, because everyone was going to the opera and... More

This cute little deli/liquor store is a delight and wonderful neighborhood fine. Always have a clean atmosphere, delightful staff who remembers your orders from previous visits. The prices are very good and the overall experience is excellent. I highly recommend visiting if you are up near SDSU.

Visit this restaurant often when it is a Broadway San Diego Musical Night. Get there about 1 hour to 1 hour and a half before performance time and you can find a place to park on the street and then enjoy a quick bite here. It's not just Bar food, they have a great Fish Dinner served with Salad, and... More

Stayed at downtown hotel. Accessible public transport, so don't rent car if you can avoid, parking is $$$. Very clean downtown with many attractions. Hop-on/hop-off shuttle is a great value. Will take you out to Coronado Island, Gas-Lamp district, little Italy, Zoo, Old San Diego etc. Visit the Medway aircraft carrier - excellent adventure.

Get ready to have soft temperatures in the morning and a little bit cold during the night. It is a beautiful and eccletic city, with restaurants of all kinds and attractions such as the USS Midway Museum, Sea World and San Diego Zoo.
