Dao Fu (formerly Tao) serves consistently flavorful vegetarian and meat-eater dishes for reasonable prices

Every dish is a winner. The tofu is appealing even to my tofu-hating friends. The biggest drawback is trying to accommodate the giant plates on the small tables!

The best tofu ever!! Love the appetizer salad with fresh tofu. Great selection of entrees. Have tried the soup, noodle and shrimp dishes and found them all to be very flavorful and good quality. Love the quiet restaurant and good service.

I've actually had to sit here for a good hour or so to really think of what to say. TL;DR: Flavorful food. Go try it. Even if you're not a vegetarian. Try it. Daofu is situated on Adams Ave in San Diego, across the way from Lestat's. There's no private parking. Yup, this means street parking. There's a sign to... More

This restaurant, the most recent incarnation of the former Dao Son that used to reside at El Cajon Blvd and Texas, continues to create amazing dishes.. The hot Chef Eric and his wife Maggie turned Dao Fu a little upscale while keeping the same homey comfort I enjoyed for the last 15 years. The food, less Pho and more stir... More

My wife and I started eating at this restaurant a few months again using certificates from Restaurant.com and it was so good we have been going back every visit. They start you out with a beautiful free salad which is outstanding and the service is beyond compare. Our hostess has always been wonderful. I love the curry dishes so I... More

Thankfully my cousin talked me into trying this restaurant. She described it as Asian Fusion and it was certainly memorable. We enjoyed the beet salad, mango chicken and ice cream ending. My cousin ordered the mock-chicken mango & pepper dish which she shared - proving beyond any doubt that this place has FANTASTIC tofu. Unfortunately, I am a whimpy eater... More

Asian dishes with delightful tastes in this small neighborhood of San Diego. Both non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes are featured on the menu....and homemade tofu for the vegetarians. I return to this restaurant periodically and am always pleased with my choices.....in fact an almost "plate licking" desire when finished....and very affordable. YUM!

I used a restaurant.com certificate, and maybe because of the forced 18% gratuity, the service was just not great. Slow and we had to ask for everything. The vegetarian menu is awesome though! They also give you free salad and free ice cream dessert. The food is good, so I'd definitely would go back.

The ambience at Tao is lovely; dimly lit and intimate. Has potential to be TOO intimate as me and the Ol' Man were sat VERY close to another couple. We basically had dinner with another couple. Needless to say, it was a litle awkward and it inhibited dinner conversation. Tao takes reservations for parties of six plus. We arrived at... More

Deciding to become vegetarian a few months ago was kind of a scary and confusing thing, but I knew it was something I wanted to do. Tao was on my list of restaurants to try in the area that offer specifically prepared vegetarian dishes, and I am so glad I did. It is smaller than I expected but that was... More
