Blink and you will miss this place. It is in the heart of the Gaslamp district.I had the white sangria and it was very refreshing not too sweet We split the mussel appetizer. They were steamed perfectly and the broth was perfect for dipping the grilled bread that accompanied it.The tacones did not disappoint . The sauce was very flavorful.

This is a classic hole-in-the-wall place: small, very casual, with outstanding food and service. We made a reservation via Open Table and were seated promptly. The menu is simple, fresh and well-prepared. They had 4 fresh fish choices or shrimp and steak for the non-seafood diner. An unexpected and delightful treat are the pickled veggies. Get them. Get as many... More

Made a reservation for a Saturday night. When we arrived our table was perfectly set up and waiting for us. I was very impressed because they only had 7 tables and the gaslamp district was very busy. The wait staff was extremely good and very knowledgeable. The food was outstanding as well. My wife had grilled sea bass with rice... More

Like other reviews say, small, casual, don't blink or you will miss it. On busy 5th Ave. We both had the sea bass. Very good, cooked great. Mango sauce topping. Less expensive then other places-$25 for an entrée. We went to Davanti in Little Italy after this, so the bar got higher. It was a good meal, but difficult to... More

I agree with several of the other reviews that mention this place not being like other restaurants in the gaslamp district. It is pretty small and unassuming and easy to walk right past in this busy area. The food here is fantastic, local fish served on the menu that can be prepared several ways - grilled, fried, blackened, etc. I... More

When you see the outside, you may be tempted to keep going. Don't give into that temptation. Yes, it's very casual, and yes, it's very small, but Escape Fish Bar is to fish what top notch steak houses are for beef. The preparations aren't extravagant - they are often very simple - but the freshness of the meat coupled with... More

This low-key restaurant is right on 5th Avenue, in the middle of the Gaslamp Quarter. Despite the location, it's easy to miss, since it is much smaller and has less storefront space than the other, louder restaurants on the street. Also, there is no hostess team working the sidewalk, trying to drive in business. My family and I recently had... More

Was very happy to find the place where they serve local fish. Very small place, but nice menu and not expensive at all.

Very small cafe style venue. Extremely casual. The appetizers were adequate but not that tasty. Some of the edamame was mushy. Mussels not that flavorful. Everything was redeemed by the main plate. Nice selection of fish. Perfectly grilled sea bass. Excellent fries. The main plate was on par with a more expensive restaurant.

We walked by, looked at the street menu, and thought it looked good but a little pricey. The couple sitting on the patio of the restaurant said "it's really good!" So we gave it a shot. And I'm so glad we did ! I had halibut tacones and split it with my daughter as there were 2 of them and... More
