First the bad: We were there at opening time on a Friday with reservations for a party of 6, we were seated promptly however before we left the restaurant became very full and extremely noisy. I had the chirashizushi, mixed seafood served over a bowl of sushi flavored rice. I have eaten a lot of sushi mostly in Japan and... More

Sushi Ota and Hane are jointly owned and buy the same fish. Hane is contemporary and both have great service.

We have been to this establishment several times. All of our experiences were great. Delicious sushi, fresh. Service was always a bit spotty. Sometimes great and sometimes ok. Our last trip we had the worst service. Waitress forgot to put orders in, forgot about our food, to find her was a challenge and the restaurant is not very large. I... More

We were craving sushi and thought this looked like a great place to try as it has great reviews. The food was fresh but otherwise the portions were small and the taste was fairly average. I would say it is overpriced compared to the other sushi restaurants down the road. They offer sushi for a fraction of the price and... More

As a Current New Yorker (and former San Deigan), I've had the opportunity to sample some of the best sushi in the world (from the highest end of Manhattan such as Yasuda and Nobu, to the local heavyweight, Ota). I can say without hesitation that Hane is well in this class! It is outstanding. The most critical aspect, as I... More

Fresh and tasty sushi. The sushi chefs make this place good. I gave it a 4 out of 5 because the remaining service was below par. For the price, I'd expect the entire restaurant to be top notch. I wanted my tip to go directly to the sushi chef because everyone else who helped us was slow, mediocre and sometimes... More

This is a regular favorite for premium sushi - freshest of the fresh, all served with perfection from the sushi chef team. Not a weekly outing, but well worth an occasional splurge. While there are some worthwhile competitors (a recent neighborhood favorite comes to mind near Old Town), Hane is a San Diego institution. What's even better is the cleanliness... More

Hane Sushi came highly rated and we were not disappointed. What looks ordinary on the outside is transformed inside at night with dramatic lighting. It is not inexpensive, but the ingredients were fresh and of the highest quality. I had Maguro, Saba, Unagi sushi plus one of the Tamago or "egg omlet," all Nigiri. My husband devoured the specialty roll,... More

If you are a fan of sushi but not a fan of just the run of the mill pop up places that now deep fries sushi or fills the rolls with American foods this is the place I would recommend. The food is unique with a spice that one would expect in this area. They embrace the textures of the... More

We are no sushi experts but we can tell fresh fish from old, lesser-quality fare. The sashimi was perfection. Each type of fish-- tuna, salmon, eel, squid-- melted in my mouth and was delicately flavored. My husband was equally entranced. Sushi chef was very patient and answered every naive question.
