During a recent visit to San Diego I had lunch at Alchemy with two of my daughters and granddaughters. The food was delicious and attractively presented, which is no doubt why the small dining area was full at lunch time. The prices are reasonable, portions are manageable, and the room is attractively decorated. The waitress was very helpful when we... More

The restaurant was interesting. We were quickly seated and received our drinks. Dinner was ok. My wife ordered the gnocchi, she said she enjoyed it and in fact ate the entire entree. However the portion size was very small. For her to be the first one done eating and she cleared the entire plate before I was half way finished... More

We ended up in this restaurant because the restaurant across made us wait for 1.50 hours, therefore we decided to go to Alchemy and have an appetizer and a drink. The menu looks fantastic, we had the baked oysters and the Chinese buns, both plates were amazing!! Very inventive and creative, unexpectedly good! Don't waste your time in line at... More

This restaurant never disappoints. We eat there every time we are in town and returned after a long (6 month) absence. Arrived early, in time for happy hour, and indulged in the "bar food" starting with plenty of oysters, fish tacos, and the unbelievable quinoa hush puppies before having dinner. We can recommend the soba salad. And the bread pudding... More

We enjoyed the tamale appetizer. Very tasty and a decent size. But the entrees disappointed. The stew of the day, oxtail, was an oily, salty mess. The qual with green curry was quite tasty with the curry sauce, but the qual itself was low on flavor and a tiny portion (yeah I know, quals are small birds). The burger was... More

Unfortunatley there isn't a bunch to say about this restaurant. I took my colleagues there for drinks and dinner. The bartender completley ignored us (it was not busy at all) until we had to wave down a waitress on the floor. It was a nice quiet enviroment where we could have a conversation until people started arriving. It got SO... More

Quite good basic food with a twist -- an unusual burger with great fries. Went there for bacon week and had a great pork belly taco. They are apparently known for their cocktails but I didn't try any -- wine list was decent and not too badly priced. The location is well out of SD downtown and about a $10-$15... More

Alchemy did not disappoint. The service was impeccable without it being overbearing. The food was an eclectic amalgamation of cuisines from around the world. It was a pleasure to dine at an establishment where the chef knows food and how to put unique flavors together to create his own stamp. After eating the Kimchee fried rice extra spicy, I requested... Very eclectic- something for every taste. Funky decor- live the books on the ceiling. Great cocktail menu and beer selection. Service friendly and attentive. Reasonable portions at reasonable prices. Standouts: quinoa hush puppies, shrimp and avocado salad, 7 grain salad and chocolate peanut butter cake. Definitely going back!

This place is yummy!! They have many options for customers who are gluten free, veggie, or meat eating. Lots of beers on tap too. My favorite is the good ol hamburger. Comes with fries. $13
