We are fans of tiki and all things Polynesian. This was a great stop on our two night stay in San Diego. We took Lyft from our hotel in the Gaslamp District (it was about $14 at 3pm on a Wednesday) out to Shelter Island. Bali Hai has happy hour with great food and drink specials from 3-6. We admired... The Bali Hai was one of our favorite restaurants while living in San Diego in 2006. Well things change. This place is not what it used to be. The recently adjusted the menu, and the service was bad. We sat down and they brought us water. My wife asked for a famous mai tai which was brought fairly quickly (she... More

One of the few completely well preserved Tiki restaurants left in the world, it's like entering a Polynesian paradise. Food is good and the drinks are strong. They are know for their Mai Tais but not for the faint at heart! We love their coconut shrimp and the views from the dining room of the San Diego Bay are priceless!... More

We had dinner at the Bali Hai on a Friday evening. We had a wonderful window table that provided us with a wonderful view of San Diego. The food was very tasty from the appetizers to the dessert. The mai tais were delicious and complemented our meal very well. We will definitely return.

We dined on a Wednesday evening in November, when the restaurant was not crowded (although there was live music going). It being San Diego, we sat outside on the patio -- a very nice area with heaters and nice views of San Diego. We started with the Ali'i platter, which is a sampler of appetizers: Hawaiian tuna poke, coconut shrimp,... More

Had the turkey club and the salmon and a harpoon and mojito. Prices were a little high, but not unreasonable and the service was good. The best part of the Bali Hai is the view of the city. Go for sunset and watch boats come in and out. Drinks were tolerable and fairly priced, but nothing special or exciting. Total... More

I enjoyed dinner at Bali Hai last night for my birthday with my fiance, and had the most wonderful time. I had high expectations after reading so many great reviews, and all of my expectations were met. The sides are big enough to share, but we are glad we got two anyways because it made for amazing leftovers. The venue... More

Excellent views and the cocktails are amazing! Our kids love the decor and it sets the tone from the minute you spot the outside.

We started off with drinks in the bar and they were great. Nicely priced too! Dinner we were seated at a window table - the view and overall atmosphere was really relaxed and nice. Wide variety of food selections, but the steep priced menu items come alone; sides are extra. The flavor was spot on, so we would go back...... More

The view of the San Diego Bay and and the city skyline from Bali Hai are just absolutely spectacular no wonder why this place is such a popular wedding venue. I really take this city for granted after living here for so many years and while dining here for brunch I sat down and said to myself....San Diego is BEAUTIFUL!... More
