Friends live nearby at Shelter Island and have suggested Bali Hai for afternoon cocktails, so we tried it. Nice decor, wonderful view of the bay and downtown area, very clean, friendly and helpful staff, fairly quick service. We ordered their Mai Tai's (that they qualify as "No Juice.") Could see through the drink when it arrived. Tasted it. As delivered,... More

Great Polynesian food restaurant and great location - be warned that if you want a cocktail and want to turn into a zombie try the Mai Tai cocktail,,, think it is all liquor and no juice but reaches the part other cheap cocktails do not - blows your socks off!!!!!!!! Not the cheapest restaurant but the food and quality justifies... More

We had dinner at Bali Hai in early August. We booked a table on-line and although the restaurant was quite busy for a Monday evening, we were able to sit on the small patio area and enjoyed the beautiful view of the bay and downtown San Diego. We ordered a couple of the (very strong) mai tais to drink and... More

I've been to Bali Hai a couple of times with friends. Each time, we had good food and a wonderful view. You can watch the boats come in and out of the harbor and simply enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant. We had a 6 pm dinner reservation and while we did not rush (nor did we feel rushed), we... More

The only upside to this restaurant is the view. When you first walk in, the noise was absolutely ridiculous. The entire place is wood that reflects sound everywhere and no one thought to put some noise insulation in. So, for most of the night I could actually discern what a few inebriated visitors were saying. Just wonderful... For appetizers, we... More

We were able to eat out on the patio, and oh what a view. The food was very good and they had quite a few gluten free entrees. The chicken sausage on the kale salad was strange but good other than that. The halibut with the blood orange sauce was amazing.

This restaurant was amazing! We heard about it from a tour guide and decided to go. I loved the dark atmosphere and the building was gorgeous inside and out. The menu wasn't extensive, but I still had trouble narrowing down what I wanted. It all sounded great. I ended up getting a very generous portion of sweet and sour chicken.... More

Alway held this place as a special place to take out of town guests. Latest trip was disappointing and lacked the food to hold it up as something special any more. Food was not what you would expect in a restaurant that was recently rated so high by reviewers. Had the cracker crusted Salmon, it lacked any flavor at all.... More

During my last trip I hit the Bali at Happy Hour & was not 'happy'. This time I went during lunch & it was an enjoyabe visit. Dessert & wine on the deck with their gorgeous view!

Nice atmosphere, view and vibe. We got three appetizers and they were all good-spring rolls, coconut shrimp and calamari. Watch out for the Mai Tai-when the waitress tells you they are strong, believe her! All rum, no juice. That could be a slogan! I ordered juice to add to mine, and it was still too strong. Should have gotten my... More
