Some of the best Mexican I've ever had!

This place is in an excellent location downtown!! The ambiance is cozy and the restaurant has mostly booths which is super nice! The service was outstanding! The food...... Holy mother!!!! My husband had a burrito which was bigger than his face! The guac and chips were perfection! And my carnitas... read more

I am allergic to onions and I have never have had an issue at Mexican restaurants, however at La Puerta everything I asked about had onions. I ended up with the carne asada fries that without the pico and guac became a very expensive plate of fries with some cheese and an extremely small serving of carne asada. The place... More

On checking in at the US Grant Hotel we asked about good places to eat. La Puerta was recommended for their tacos. It is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. I had a sampler of 3 different tacos. I had the chicken, carnitas, and carne asada. They were all great. The carnitas were the best. This place has... More

The food was good but it took two hours by the time we were seated and ate. When we first shower up the hostess said it will only take 20 minutes to get seated but it took atleast a hour even though there was only 2 small parties in front of us. It was dark and very loud. Not good... More

Even though we had a large group of 9 people and the restaurant was crowded, we were seated quickly. We had ordered drinks from the bar while waiting and since we were seated so quickly, we hadn't gotten them yet. It was no problem as they were brought to our table and put on our bill. The food and drinks... More

This place is kind of small but their happy hour from 3:00 to 7:00 can't be beat. The beer selection is good and tequila selection is great. It's really easy to get to on foot from anywhere in the Gaslamp quarter and after happy hour with 1/2 drinks walking can be a good idea. I went here twice during my... More

Loved the service loved the margaritas and even the shot :) I am not much of a tequila drinker but the thanks to the help of the wonderful bartender I found a tequila that doesn't make me gag! All drinks are half off during happy which makes it all the more enjoyable. Definitely worth stopping by!

Years ago when I lived in the San Diego area, nobody went to the Gaslamp District because it was quite undesirable. Obviously, things have changed considerably, but since I moved away before the Gaslamp became hip again, I rarely get a chance to experience the food scene in the district. Usually, when back in San Diego, I don't think of... More

The good====the guacamole was quite good....chunky with a little bite...chips were a bit thicker than I like them and over salted. The service once we were seated was also quite good. The bad====Unfortunately the chicken tacos and the chicken quesadilla were just mediocre....bland with no real seasoning to the meat.....the flour tortillas seemed a bit old and the beans were...
