My fiancé and I found this place while wandering about in the gas lamp district. We both really enjoyed the meal. It was tasty with a bit of a twist on typical mex. I cant say it was the best I have ever had but I would go back. I love mex and this restaurant was satisfying but, it wasn't... More

There was a long wait to be seated but there was plenty of seating at the bar. Bartenders were great and we ordered drinks and appetizers while we waited. it's a limited menu (Tacos and Burriots) but this is great as most places offer too much. Good food, great prices and overall nice atmosphere.

The food was lovely. I got the choose three taco special with Chicken, Pork & Steak. Surprisingly the chicken was my favorite. The drinks were nice and strong I couldn't drink more than two with fears I'd be drunk. The guac and chips was of an AWESOME serving. I went twice during my week's stay in San Diego. I will... More

We went on a super busy Saturday night but called ahead so we got to stay home for most of our hour and half wait. Super friendly staff made us feel welcome and we helped ourselves to the bar for our short wait at the restaurant. Everyone's entrees were awesome. I had the shrimp tacos and they were the best!!!... During recent trip to San Diego wife and I decided to try some Mexican. I had read that La Puerta was the place to go in the Gas Lamp District. It is. Started with Pollo and Carna Asada Quesadillas. They were fabulous. I do not know what they do to make them different from other Mexican eateries but they do... More

If we're totally honest, it may have been the Margarita's but we had the best time here. (Thanks Hanna!) We were in San Diego for a few days with friends and they suggested going for Mexican. Checked some reviews and figured La Puerta was worth a try. While it was very busy and we had a short wait, we were... More

We stumbled upon and we were looking for a Mexican place. What you have to understand about restaurants is that if you find a restaurant that around 430 or 5 o'clock it's busy that's probably a pretty good sign. We approached the gal at the front of the restaurant working the book and asked her for a table and she... More

Walking in the gas lamp district we walked in this place because it had a cool atmosphere. To begin the bartenders are a very friendly and make you feel comfortable when you sit at the bar as other places the opposite is true. I tried the bark at the moon margarita.. Wow. It was perfect as has just a hint... More

Go, and if you can, go during happy hour. Call around 5:15 (they don't take reservations any farther in advance), head over at 6pm, get your pager, and walk around until you are buzzed over. If you get there before 7pm, lots of things are 1/2 off. We ordered a ton of food - one bite was better than the... More

We went on 'Taco Tuesday' which meant a la carte $2 tacos. It was a great deal and they were the best tacos I've had.
