I was here for a private wine dinner event with a group of about twenty people in their private dining space. Food was outstanding with service equally great. The meat course was simply delicious. Will definitely be returning again soon.

Fab food with a relaxing atmosphere! Very pleasant staff... helped us select just the right steak. Mac & cheese > outstanding. Not an inexpensive place, but perfect for an upscale (yet casual-vibe) dinner. Perfect walking distance from the Gaslamp or East Village. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star was because I felt they needed to... More

Ended up going to Cowboy Star yesterday when browsing nearby restaurants on Foursquare. We got lucky and arrived just at the time when they had the last seating. Best choice we've made so far on this trip to the USA. The starter (Something with sweetbread) was glorious, and then the steak came. A 14oz ribeye, extremely tender, and with a... More

This place is for meat lovers. We went first time on a consierge recomendation, and after that every evening during our stay in San Diego. Staff is very friendly, restaurant is walking distance from the gaslamp district and is safe to walk. Reservations are accepted. And food... Tartare is great, grilled bone marrow to try, skirt steak Angus and Cobe -... More

The atmosphere is nice, the appetizers, steaks & sides were really good and the staff did a nice job. Pricing is consistent with the market. I'd go back. There are 2 areas where Cowboy Star falls short of a 5 star rating: the wine and the portion sizes. The wine list is shallow and the pricing markup is pretty steep.... More

A local recommended this place and I was a bit confused given the availability of fresh seafood. This place was incredible. The tartare was excellent and the skirt steak was unbelievable. Yes, a skirt steak! Very well informed staff who knew the menu well. This place blew me away and one of the best meals I've had all year.

Atmosphere is a nice surprise as the name does not infer upscale. Staff is very attentive and personable. Food is great all around. The only thing holding back from a real high end steak place is care for the wine. Especially since it can be the most expensive item on the bill. Cabernet should be about 63 degrees, not 75... More

The resturant almost looks out of place from the street, it looks like an old western saloon from the front. We did not have a reservation, but I would recommend making them. We waited about 20 minutes for a table on a Friday night. We ended up sitting at the chefs table in the kitchen. I was a little nervous... More

Pros: All our steaks were cooked perfectly as requested. All staff was very attentive and friendly. Cons: Steaks were a little bland tasting (lucky for me I added blue cheese topping which really helped). We checked in at 8:30 for dinner and weren't served our food till 9:50 which seemed a little long of a wait to be served our... More
