A group of four on a business trip had a great end-of-trip meal at one of the back tables and everything was pretty close to perfect. We started with the steak tartare and ahi appetizers and then enjoyed the Caesar salads with real white anchovy filets, accompanied by a Zaca Mesa syrah (2012). Each of us ordered different steaks with... More

We scheduled a working dinner here while in San Diego. Upon the reviews before we arrived, I expected more. The food was very good and the wine was lovely. We started with the oysters, and while really different from any I've ever tasted, very good. Then we shared the cheese and meat appetizer which was delicious! We gobbled that down... More

Having read the glowing reviews on tripadvisor I booked a table at Cowboy Star to through Open Table in advance of our trip to San Diego. I mentioned in the e-mail that it was a special occasion and that my fiancé was celebrating his 30th birthday. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who showed us to one of the... More

We had just flown in from the East coast. We arived after nine and were seated adn served as if we had been long term diners. The service was excellent. Kath and I shared muscles and oysters which were excellent. I am sure the meals are great but for no steak eaters this was a pleasant interlude.

Lovely place. We are not very pretentious people, but we appreciate good food and are willing to pay for it so it wasn't the prices that disappointed us. Our server spoke in a very intimate tone while the noise level in the place wasn't on the same decibel -he did a fine job but he could tell we weren't impressed.... More

While my husband had been to Cowboy Star twice before, this was my first time dining there and they did not disappoint according to my expectations from my husband's visits. Our evening began with a couple stellar Manhattans from Garth at the bar. He was very friendly and informative. Moving in the dinner, we were extremely well taken care of... More

Good cocktails, terrible meal. Hen chicken and ribeye steaks were not good. Chicken was super dry, riveted were not grilled and fat was not marbled with meat. Wagyu beef was delicious.

Went with my family for restaurant week. Only reasons it is not a full 5, our server, I never got his name because we never understood him, he was very aloof. My husband and I ate at the Cowboy on a recent trip to San Diego. The restaurant was very clean and we were seated right away. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful, with the wine selection and also about the menu. We ordered the rib chop and were so happy. It was 18oz so we split the dinner. The... More
