Great steaks and great service

We're from out of town and were looking for a nice steakhouse to take our son (USD student) to dinner to celebrate his 19th birthday. We arrived at our reservation time and were seated immediately. The drink menu is vast and we were very pleased with our choices. We selected a petite filet, ribeye... read more

We thoroughly enjoyed the Cowboy Star! We had great service and a great steak. The waiter was kind enough to let us move to a quieter table after a family with three small (and noisy) kids were seated near us. (I don't know why young parents need to bring small kids to these types of restaurants!!!) We have bee to... More

Loved everything about this place. Enjoying a long weekend in San Diego, and this is a dining experience to remember. We did it all - specialty cocktails (delish!), a bottle of wine (yes please) Caesar Salads (yum!), steaks / 2 different cuts - (melt in your mouth tender!) - and dessert (to die for!). The food was amazing, the service... More

I needed somewhere to take my sister to dinner last minute, so I made a reservation at Cowboy Star after seeing it on Yelp. It was a great choice. The restaurant is attached to a butcher shop, which is where they get their steaks from. Therefore, all of the steaks are extremely fresh, and it shows in the taste. Excellent... More

We chose this restaurant to celebrate a 50th birthday and honestly we couldn't have been more pleased with the service and the restaurant as a whole. I did mention while confirming our reservation that it was a special occasion and there was a pleasant surprise awaiting us when we arrived. Our menu's were specially printed to announce the "50th Birthday"...we... More

Far and away better than all the large steakhouse chains in downtown SD. Great service, good wine (and wine prices) and the best steaks in SD. Don't miss this spot on your next visit!

Great steakhouses in the US are not rare and unfortunately I do not think Cowboy Star qualifies as one of the greats. It's a good restaurant, you will have a good piece of meat and a good time but it's "just good". what I did like a lot is the ambiance, not too tacky but with this comfy cowboy feel.... More

Went to this restaurant for dinner with 3 adult children. Steaks were sublime and ambience great, but waiter thought it was ok to be rude, pretentious and patronising, so long as you slap a phoney smile on your face. Well bad news- it's not ok.

The name suggests a level of hoquienss, but that is far from the fact. Great atmosphere and my Porterhouse with bernaise was perfect. my absinthe aperitif was an unexpected indulgence. . This is a good bet if you like steakhouses.
