Cute, quaint and delicious

My friend and I decided to try this place out. It's legendary in Topeka and we had to check it out. You have to go in the winter when they serve their famous chili--but not on Fridays in catholic tradition. How cool is that? Took some work to find the place. Travel to it on the recommendation of a friend. The sandwiches were very reasonably priced. Plenty of meat. The sandwich overall was somewhat generic but tasted good (smoke turkey with Swiss cheese). Would have liked to try the chili but no chili on Saturdays and the chili season ends April 30th this year.... More

NO CHILI ON FRIDAY OR SATURDAY! Expect friendly service and remember the horseradish pickles. All cold sandwiches on the menu plus potato salad. They were out of pastrami and roast beef the Saturday we went but they really pile on the deli sliced meats for sandwiches. Well off the beaten path but a nice place for cold cuts and beer.

It is a little hard to find but well worth your time if you like to find good real food as I do. Limited menu: cold plate sandwiches and chili. No chili on Fri. or Sat. Or during summer months. Keep trying the hot pickles until you like them, like I did. Go there for chili!!

This combination restaurant/grocery/deli/tavern is very special. Located in a section of town referred to as Little Russia, you used to have to cross the railroad tracks to get there, often resulting in long waits. A number of years ago, a special exit and road was built off of the nearby bridge, eliminating the frequent long delays. The building of this... More

This is a classic place- and the BEST chili in the nation. I also love the hot pickles- but beware- they are HOT!

We just had the most wonderful experience in Topeka, Ks. It was eating at Porubsky's Grocery & Deli. We both ordered the hogie sandwich and it was more then we could eat so brought most of it home. People were friendly and fast service. Don't forget to try the HOT PICKLES.

Chili and a cold plate are always my favorite meal. Also look into party platters. The hidden treasure od Topeka. Why else would you get a road named after your business.
