Local Staple

Nothing beats the burgers and fries from Johnnie's Drive In. It's a local haunt that hasn't changed in 60 years. If you're an Elvis fan go inside and see or sit at his favorite booth and check out old photos gracing the walls. If you're a health nut worried about your grease intake don't bother... read more

Not much has changed at Johnnie’s over the last sixty-odd years since Elvis patronized it while growing up in the neighborhood. They still have car hops and the booths inside are original, cut from plywood. But be advised the building is small, parking is very limited and seating is difficult to obtain during the busy local lunch crowd so come... More

A must visit if you come to Tupelo as an Elvis fan as I am! It was my first visit to Elvis' birthplace and I couldn't believe that I sat in the same booth as Elvis did at the diner... The staff seems to LOVE Elvis fans! Johnnie's is now a "must stop" when in Tupelo. The city fathers should... More

Just up the road from the Elvis Presley birthplace museum is Johnny's Bar-B-Q, a little drive-in BBQ restaurant where Elvis Presley and his friends hung out. The food is nothing too special but it is standard southern BBQ and the usual options, but it's very cool to be able to eat where Elvis did, and the place doesn't look like... More

Johnnie's Drive In was one of our stops during our food tour of Tupelo. We stopped in and although I was there years ago to have a slug burger, I decided on an AM (all meat) burger. In the burger world Johnnie's gets it. It's about the burger! The toppings are there to enhance the flavour and texture of the... More

This being Elvis' childhood fave, we wanted to give it a try while in town. It's a neat little down-home place with friendly people, but I will order differently the next time I am there. Elvis' choice, the "dough burger" was kinda gross in my opinion...edible, but that's all. It is a small burger with bread mixed up in the... More

This iconic restaurant is a step into past. A unique 1950's experience of the local Mom and Pop restaurant with great sandwiches including a popular version of hamburgers in Mississippi called "Dough Burgers." Sit in the same booth where Elvis had lunch. Located only a few blocks from the Elvis Presley Birthplace.

This restaurant should be your first stop after visiting the Elvis' Birthplace. We stopped here for lunch. We were lucky to be seated in the Elvis' booth, which is a very special experience. Everybody here was very friendly, the burgers we had were delicious. But most important, this place is full of Elvis history. There is so much to see.... More

Although they have great all-beef burgers, I would highly recommend you try the Johnnie's Burger, with cheese. It is a different kind of burger but it is delicious. Try at least one. If you are really hungry, try the hamburger steak smothered with gravy and onions. The barbecues are also a bit different (a sweeter sauce than most) but it... More
