We tried the canoli's at modern bakery and they were nothing but tasteless cookies with pudding the middle. We tried the strawberry shortcake the Chico mousse and a few other things and everything tasted like it had no sugar and we ended up throwing everything away. Nothing beats American desserts at least they are sweet! Someone please explain what all... More

I love cannolis and couldn't wait to wash one down with a double espresso. I usually go to Mikes but decided to try Modern after reading TA reviews. It was OK, but not worth the wait. I was surprised at how cheap it was, which may explain the blandness. We also tried a fig and almond pastry, which was dry... More

Was very full after a delicious Italian lunch but wanted a sweet snack. Enter Modern Pastry mini cannoli. Perfect 3 bites. There is a colossal debate over which is better - Mike's or Modern's. I say visit both and decide which one you like better yourself. I like both. At Modern they are also really nice people. We spilled a... More

If you live around the Boston area, you most likely know about the Mike's Pasty-Modern Pastry debate. All Bostonians have their pick, I guess, but to me, Modern Pastry is definitely the way to go. Yes, the shop is small and you will probably have to wait in line, but it's totally worth it, especially if you want the cannoli.... More

Great cannoli's with different fillings and dipped in chocolate and dusted with powdered sugar. In the quaint north end.

My son and I ate pastries on Sunday, June 9th in the morning while walking the Freedom Trail. We did not have to wait at all and managed to get a table. The pastries were wonderful and very fresh. Please note that they do not have a bathroom.

Not worth the parking fees and aggravation. Tiny bakery, cold pastries and indifferent service. Don't bother

On any given day you will see plenty of people walking through the North End with this Mike's Patry boxes...the blue ones... These people and tourists and pastry amutures. Be good to yourself...wait in the line at Modern and get absolutely anything that catches your eye... You will not regret it! We love the traditional cannoli... Grab a double esspresso... More

A feast for the eyes, and then decide. Take your time - they have so many goodies. Just take the rest home for breakfast!

This is a smaller version of Mike's Pastries. I had the Tiramisu and my son had cheesecake. Homemade Italian pastries at their best!
