After standing in line at Mike's for the better part of 30 min, only to end up with pre-filled cannoli, we decided to try out Modern for a comparison taste test. Aside from sharing the same block, and the line of eager pastry-eaters, not much else is similar between these two pastry shops. The service is fast and friendly, and... More

My favorite guilty pleasure stop in the NE. Espresso is always hot, crema, and smooth. Don't underestimate the torrone - Italian nougat that lines the top of the pastry case - go for the plain/originale to experience the true flavors d'Italia. The atmosphere is genuine too and the prices are fair. You'll have to tolerate the usually dirty tables, but... More

A must stop shop for pastry lovers, we tried the vanilla custard cannoli and caramel nougat - both of them were awesome! You will be hard pressed to find a better cannoli! Service was good, obviously popular with the locals based on the queue of people trying to get into the shop.

In the "cannolli" wars, my pick is Modern (rather than MIke's). They are both tasty, but Modern's win for me because the shells are filled fresh with the filling you want, when you order it, rather than pre-filled and sitting around (to get kind of soggy). I recommend you try both places and make up you own mind. That is... More

The pastries are all wonderful and the cannoli is a standard but want to try something different? go for the lobster tail. We got one to go the other day and it took three people to finish. It was so amazing and decadent. Try to go at off hours so you don't have to wait in line.

This is THE place to go for top quality, reasonably priced Italian Pastry. Casual, friendly and worth waiting in line. It moves fast.

We tried Modern Pastry a couple of times while staying around the corner in the North End. I really like the cannoli. They fill them when you order them. They are so fresh. The first time we got some things to take back to the apartment. When I saw the Carrot Cake I had to buy it. We also tried... More

This is the only pastry shop to go to in the North End, it is worth waiting in line for. Skip the tourist trap(Mikes Pastry) across the street and wait in line for a little taste of heaven. The sweets at Modern Pastry are the best......true Italian pastry that you remember you won't be disappointed and forget your diet.......go all... More

It is no secret that this gem is the preferred spot of North End locals and diners...after a great meal at any of areas restaurants..walk around and end the night with freshest made cannolis or other delight...sit in and eat with an expresso,,,or walk and eat ..Bring home to relive the experience...don't miss if in area
