The best and most unique American diner I came across on my thru-hike of the 2200 mile Appalachian Trail. Its a real blast from the 1950`s and what America does and did best. I had a few hours to spend whilst waiting for my trans continental railway journey, from Boston to San Fransisco. Just a few blocks away was this... More

After many moons of hearing about the South Street Diner, I was intrigued to pay a visit following a 6 AM airport run to Logan. Honestly, I almost left after seeing the prices vis a vis the dingy decor. An authentic time warp true, but IMHO an ultimately gimmicky answer to Boston's lack of early morning/late night easy-eatin' joints. The... More

This is a tiny, nondescript building that contains some magic. We went for breakfast. The food is plentiful and is cooked right in front of you. Everything tasted so good! The waitress was very engaging. Go there. You won't regret it.

This diner was a breakfast recommendation from our hotel Concierge (Hyatt Regency). It is an authentic 24/7 NE USA diner that does all that this type of diner should. We had various breakfast options and enjoyed it all. Our waitress was fantastic, we even received top advice regarding what to see and do in Boston from the diner owner. They... More

When you hear the word DINER, South St is just what you should think of. IT WAS GREAT! Very small and very good food. You are treated like you are just one of the family. The cooks are right in front of you, so you see your order being prepared. All of the servers work together and get you what... More

Jet lagged and up and hungry at 4am - this place is what you need. The food is plentiful and the service attentive. And the coffee just kept on coming. Food tasted good and someone seemed to be always cleaning something.

South Street Diner offers what a good greasy spoon should: reliable and tasty food served without a fuss. It's open 24/7, with cozy booths (thank god the benches can be moved) and counter stools. I had the turkey club (nothing fancy but delicious); one of my mates had a salmon and eggs benedict (I think), and loved it; another had... More

I really wanted to like this diner, and I am usually a huge diner fan. But I was not a fan of the South Street Diner. Everything was filthy, from the salt/pepper shakers (which had hard encrusted food on them), to the table, etc. I had ordered a tuna melt with fries. The cheese was not melted on the sandwich... Went to visit twice over the space of a couple of days after a week in Boston. South Street Diner was ace. First visit had a veggie-loaded breakfast omelette, which was excellent, and the second time had the "Diner Special" which is an enormous 2-plate breakfast. Both were delicious in very different ways. I found the staff to be lovely,... More
