Description: The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish. We know shopping induces hunger. Our restaurant is located on the upper level of Copley Place, with direct indoor access to both the Westin and Marriott hotels as well as to the Prudential Center. Panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows overlook Boston’s historic South End. We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Boston Phoenix, 2009) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

Legal's gluten free menu is outstanding, as is their attentiveness to needs of gluten intolerant diners. However, on a recent visit, their Wood-grilled seafood assortment was overcooked, with very dry swordfish, salmon and haddock. The scallops and shrimp were better, and the side of sauteed kale with honey-yogurt and peanuts was very good. The highlight of the meal for our... More

While the food at LS is not cheap, I value the consistency of food quality and service at the two establishments that I visit most often - Copley and Braintree. My wife had the baked scrod, a favorite, while I had the bluefish. The side of kale that accompanied my meal was tasty and is another favorite of mine.

Not from this area, we wanted to try the local foods, such as crab cakes, lobster rolls and seafood. We had several very disappointing crab cakes, more bread stuffing than crab. Once we came here on someone's recommendation, we finally found out what real seafood was! The crabcakes are chunks of crab meat, not a ball of stuffing. the lobster... More

The chowder was good, and the crab sandwich great. I had the prawns with rice and broccoli, which was disappointing. Too much broccoli so that it overwhelms the more delicate prawns. Also, I'd go easier on the cheese. However, the service was great.

Had my favorite oysters and lobster bisque. Like knowing it will always be what I am expecting. Sometimes I want the she crab bisque.

I have always been a fan of Legal Seafood and had dined at this location before and it was very good. Whenever I fly out of Logan, I always look forward to a pre-flight treat of Legal clam chowder and a crab cake. Our experience last evening at the Legal Seafood in Copely Place left us unimpressed, mostly by the... More

Our food was fair. I had Cherrystone clams on the half shell which were very fresh. The clam chowder was fair to good. I had chowder at the Atlantic Fish Company which was superb. Their chowder was filled with multiple chunks of clams and was wonderful. Unfortunately the chowder at Legal Seafood paled in comparison with much less clams and... More

So disappointed. I had such high expectations for such a well known famous restaurant. Everything we ate was just average food nothing special. The stuffed lobster was beyond chewy, similar to beef gristle. I needed razor blades for teeth to get through it. The seafood stuffing had nice pages pieces of shrimp and scallops but lacked flavor. It just tasted... More

The seafood here is quite good (though NOT cheap) and they are open late (good when you get into town after 9 pm). The cioppino is different than what I was expecting (more or a seafood collection in a bit of broth than a stew) but still tasty. The crab cakes were great. My only complaint is the ambiance -... I always go to Legal Sea Foods when in Boston. We chose to go to Copley place which was in a really nice mall. The restaurant had a very nice atmosphere and nice view out the windows. Food is always good.
