Tiny corner restaurant

We couldn't see the sign and kept circling around the neighborhood. Beware there is mostly "residents only" street parking. My hubby and I were a little early and thankfully we could find a parking space across the street from it. They had lovely huge Christmas wreaths on their windows. We... read more

My partner and I had lunch here and it was delicious. The best French dip I've ever had and his BBQ brisket sandwich was a close second!

We had lunch at The Butcher Shop with mixed, but reasonably positive results. First the good: My wife had a "hot dog" which was remarkably good -- in texture, it was like a really first-rate bratwurst, but it was not spiced like a brat, but more like a good hot dog. With it came pickled fennel (amazing!) and potato chips... More

I'm actually more of a fan of their lunch menu than their dinner menu, the dijon mustard they have for their pastrami sandwiches and hot dogs is absolutely amazing and coupled with a good beer (ask them for advice) on a warm weekend day will make for a fantastic lunch. Plus, lunch here isn't even that expensive and I've always... More

Casual dining in a friendly spot, The Butcher Shop was a treat. Not overwhelming menu, interesting and diverse wine list and reasonably priced made it a more than agreeable afternoon. Friendly staff, too.

We were looking forward to this popular restaurant in the south end. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The greeter and server were very nice but that was not the problem. The wine list was extensive but poorly organized (not delineated clearly by varietal or country). The issue was price vs quantity. We had the sopressata for 9 $ and we... More

Stopped here before our reservations at sister restaurant B&G. We both had the daily special white wine which was dry and excellent drinking while standing at the butcher counter. The dishes of food that we saw as they passed looked very appealing and generous. Will consider trying a meal here in the future.

Nice place, good win selection (we ordered a great Barolo), quite an interesting posh local crowd; we were quite unlucky with the main; in fact we ordered the veal chop that ended up being really heavy and chewy. The terrine de pate was good, so was the bread and the two cheeses we ordered. Can't give more than 3 stars... More

We came in for a late snack after a performance and just wanted to get a glass of wine and a small appetizer. Yes, small it was and for that really overpriced - both the food and the wine. Despite the fact that it actually tasted good, I would probably not come back.

The wine selection was made up of quite drinkable reds and whites - a delightful set of options. The cheese choices were great and the ones we chose were quite good - although a little modest in size for the price... And bar mistress, would it kill you to smile?

Staying in South End

Neighborhood Profile
South End
Stroll down the beautiful brownstone lined streets while capturing views of Boston’s tallest buildings from a distance. Some of Boston’s best restaurants are scattered around this neighborhood. There are many gems to be found, from jazz clubs to classy bars and restaurants. It is also home to art galleries, interesting boutiques, artsy stores and SOWA open market during the summer months. The South End is a true find in the city, with a more residential feeling than Back Bay.
