Via Matta's got location and style as it dazzles regional flavors of Tuscany. Sitting on prime real estate in Boston, Chef Michael Schlow dishes Italian with flair and a sense of humor. Schlow's cooking is endearing: the simplest ingredients yield flavor that's sophisticated, pure and I don't know, real. Chefs take ordinary vegetables like beets and turn them into good-looking... We visited Via Mata a few weekends ago to celebrate a birthday and enjoyed ourselves very much. The restaurant was not crowded perhaps due to the unexpected snow that evening. The maitre'd and staff were nice about our being late for our reservation (due to the weather). The food was delicious....where do I start? Based on our servers' recommendations and... More

Went to Via matta on tuesday with family, We were quite early as it was a pre theatre dinner. We ordered a couple of starters and then we all had different pastas. All were served hot and all were very nicely prepared and presented. Finished with a couple of deserts, a tirimasu and a Nutella tart, both were excellent. The... More

The food at Via Matta is excellent though the service doesn't always seem to match. Not that the service is bad, but just not at the same level as the food.

My wife and I went here on Valentine's day which makes this review tough because we had to eat from a pre-fixe menu. The restaurant itself is an upscale Italian place, warm and inviting inside and the staff was friendly/attentive. We both got the arugula salad to start... for an arugula salad it was pretty good. Came with capers, shaved... More

My wife and I were in downtown Boston on the eve of Valentine's Day and decided to treat ourselves to what we knew would be an excellent, albeit overpriced meal. We were given no choice but to order the chef's tasting menu, but were delighted with our meals. For our appetizers, I chose the Spicy Calamari with Tomatoes, Black Olives,... More

We have dined about half a dozen times at Via Matta and have generally found the ambiance welcoming and the food good to excellent. Unfortunately, when we went with two friends over the holidays, we all were disappointed by the service, which was unrefined, hurried, unengaging and borderline rude, except for the one attentive staff member who smiled and provided... This is a good fancy Italian place that thinks it's a mind-blowing fancy Italian place. It's got white tablecloths but the tables aren't stately enough for them, it's got good food but the prices are a little too high. That said, I had a good meal here. The best part was a ricotta appetizer that was bright and lemony with... More

I found this restaurant to be overpriced for the amount of food you get. Yes, it's all linen tablecloths and fancy napkins but it's the second restaurant in Boston I've been to where when I was done, I was still hungry!

The food was great, as always. It was Halloween night, so the restaursnt wssn't crowded. That was good because we didn't have a reservation. Our dinners (4) were all very good. Cooked just right. The service was a little off with us having to ask for utensils or small plates for an appetizer. That's really the main thing that could... More
