Paraplegic takes shelter from rain at Boston's Penang Restaurant

It was a wet and miserable night when we went into the Penang. I was in my wheelchair and the access was OK. The food was fantastic and the service was great. However, they had run out of the wine we had chosen. So my wife went next door to the wine shop and purchased a NZ wine, we were... read more

After 4 years without visiting South East Asia it was the first Malay restaurant I found abroad and it was great. I tried the steamed dumplings, the murtabak and the chow fun and I loved them all. I would definitely come back.

The Penang restaurant in Boston's Chinatown has been serving hearty, tasty southeast Asian dishes primarily from Malaysia for the last decade or so. It's consistently good quality with reasonably fast service in a nice, spacious setting. I recently stopped by again to enjoy the beef rendang with rice. The only thing keeping the rating from being five stars is that... More

I have been going to Penang for a long long time. They are great. I love their atmosphere and food. Shrimp and Okura dish is great but on the menu it says Shrimp and Lady Fingers. Try their Roti, Singapore noodle is excellent. Do no try their Chicken Wings it tasted bad and over cooked. I have many favorite dishes... More

For those who have not been to Malaysia, the food here will be very close to what you can expect in that part of the world. We had the Hor Fun (noodles in grayvy) which was quite tasty. The jumbo prawn was also quite nice. However, was a bit disappointed by the fried rice which did not arrrived as hot... More

I'm only giving a 7/10 because the shrimp and squid in my dish were not properly cleaned and I couldn't eat them it grossed me out :( However service was good and friendly. The roti was to die for. Our dishes were flavorful and besides the uncleaned shrimp and squid very good. I would go back but probably not order... More

I've been back to have their nasi lemak a few times. The rice was good and so was the curry. Too much hassle to cook up something similar on my own in Boston. Best to just shell out the money for my fix. Haven't tried anything else on their menu.

Every couple of months I get to visit Boston. I never fail to eat at least one meal at Penang - it's a favorite of mine for fresh, tasty food in perfect quantities - filling, but not so full that you can't walk back to your hotel. This time, I introduced two co-workers to my favorite restaurant. We had Pad... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
