Full of annoying tourists, but still worth it

Increasingly annexed by South Boston's booming skyline of luxury high-rises and parking garages is this stalwart old salt of a crab shack; an anachronism amidst the growing metropolis. It's not cheap, but it's the best at what it does: buckets and buckets of succulent, sweet crab legs. Sure... read more

Went here after doing Boston Tea Party exhibit. Just down the street on the water. Great bar and nice small restaurant at the end of facility. Food was great and everything I saw ordered looked fantastic. Did not try lobster as it was a little expensive. Lobster in Boston may be expensive anyway, I do not know. My wife and... More

The lobster in this place is perfect! Delicious seafood and nice trendy environment near the water. It is better to go there during the day and not in cold days because it is very open. The service is great! They have food for everyone and it is family friendly!

The day we arrived we crossed a bridge on foot from the Marriott Waterfront and found this place on the water . Had read about it in an online book and we loved it. We had clam chowder to start and my wife had an incredible local cider on tap and I had a few local craft beers all great.... More

The alfresco side of the restaurant was closed for a private function - the indoor part was very hot and crowded so we got a drink at the bar and waited a short time for a table. Once seated, service was efficient and our food arrived quickly. The lobster bisque was delicious and the calamari tender, but a little oily.... More

My first visit to the Barking Crab, was almost five years ago. At that time I had some amazing steamers! On this trip I suggested that we go back. Our waitress was incredible! The lobster roll was great, clam chowder was really good, but the onion rings were over the top! The atmosphere was icing on the cake--rustic and right... More

Service can be a little slow and you have to be OK with sharing a long table. The atmosphere on a hot day is great. We went on a Sunday, they had a band playing and we stayed for most the afternoon, eating, drinking and being merry. Great times and we have been multiple times since.

I've been dying to try this place for years. Been to Boston twice from the UK and finally made it this time! It was a freezing cold day and had been sight seeing for hours so we started with the hot crab dip and sangria. Both incredible! I lived in Spain and find it hard to get good sangria anywhere... Staying in Seaport District / South Boston Waterfront

Neighborhood Profile
Seaport District / South Boston Waterfront
This area has been expanding and becoming more and more popular, for good reason. Not surprisingly, the seaport district of South Boston is located beautifully along the water. The area is designed for easy strolling along the HarborWalk, and there are bars and restaurants for all ages and budgets. The Institute of Contemporary Art is located in this area in a contemporary building with an absolutely stunning deck overlooking the water. In the summer time there are Friday music concerts on the deck of the museum. Nearby, there are many green spaces to enjoy.
