Classic lobster roll

In an unpretentious setting. You order at the counter and wait. Best on a day you want to sit outdoors. This summer, great combo with net sculpture floating above the Greenway. But the Greenway offers a great variety of food trucks.

You literally need not travel outside Boston to find the freshest seafood on the market. Kocated downtown, it is the best I've found after living in Boston for nearly 30 years.

It lives up to the hype and acclaim. Incredibly delicious chowder but most importantly lobster rolls. This was the best lobster roll I've had in my life and it only cost $16. You may have to wait a bit, and seating (pretty much all outside) is very limited, but it's worth it once you get your food. Neat location right... More

We stayed at the Envoy a new chic hotel and the lady at the hotel recommended us to go to James Hook & co. The lobster rolls was delicious it is all lobster meat no filler with a little mayo on a toasted bun. My husband had the oysters and I had clams. They open at 10:00am. Mitch helped us... More

Great Lobster roll! Enjoyed a lunch outside. You are just going here for the fresh food, no frills. I thought the food and experience were great.

Rated as the best Lobster Roll in Boston - I must agree! A toasted bun chock-full of lump lobster meat in a light dressing. Eat at the outside picnic tables. Locals were buying live lobster to take home (or packed in ice for the drive to the Cape).

Took my family over to James Hook after a morning at the aquarium. My husband and I shared a large lobster roll with the biggest chunks of lobster I have ever had in a lobster roll! It was so amazing and so glad we stopped in. We could have eaten more but were pacing ourselves for our ongoing food adventures... More

Visited due to all the positive reviews. Stopped by for a light lunch. Live lobsters in bins as you place your order. Staff was not very friendly and just shy of rude. Lobster rolls ( regular) were ok,had better outside of town. Chowder was good. From my point of view not worth all the attention

We chose this place because the prices were reasonable and it was ranked #2 out of almost 3000 restaurants. Talk about setting us up with super high expectations! The atmosphere was very casual/laid back. There was a small amount of indoor seating and a much larger seating area outside. Most tables had umbrellas. All four of us had the lobster... More

Ailsa, I'm sorry to hear that we didn't live up to your expectations. We were voted Best of Boston because of our belief to just let the lobster shine in the roll. If you come in again (which I hope that you do), I hope that we can find makes you feel the way we do about our rolls and... More

Regular lobster roll was small. Roll was toasted but not buttered at all. Service was fine but not great. That said, this is a "no frills" Boston seafood shack so I don't really care about the service. Lots of cute Irish girls though!!!

I'm disappointed that you felt like the Regular roll was a bit small. We offer a lot of lobster for that price, and we definitely have a larger size as well. That being said, next time you're here, I hope that we can find a dish that you'd enjoy more -- I think that you'd really love our lobster tails!... More
