This place is for seafood lovers.

I have been to Hooks many times. Being born in Boston, I am certainly not a stranger to this wonderful Seafood Oasis. They have a very delicious Lobster Roll which I personally have purchased and brought it all the way home to Arizona. They have just about every kind of seafood delicacy and will... read more

A fabulous lobster roll is made up of three things-fresh lobster, big portions, and a fresh roll. If you add good value, then this place rocks! But the lunch menu is limited with choices. Who cares! The lobster roll and the soups (two or three choices including an excellent clam chowder and a lobster bisque) are the main entrees. Quarters... More

This review rocks, Ricardo! It's great to see that you enjoyed yourself and thought so highly of the value and quality of the lobster. Thanks for letting everyone know about the space -- we're still recuperating from a fire in our facilities. Still, I hope that we get to see you back here more more rolls and chowder! Warm wishes,... We went here based purely on reviews on this site, and it turned out to be a great decision: from the friendly staff to the great food, we couldn't fault anything at this place. We had lobster rolls ( so generously filled that we had to eat some of the flesh with a fork first!), as well as crab cakes,... More

It was your first experience with lobster rolls? Well, that makes me doubly happy that we knocked it out of the park for you. There's nothing that I'd rather hear than that you had a great time all around. I can't wait for you to come visit Boston again -- I hope that means that we get to see you... More

My youngest son and several family members love lobster tails. There was quite a line of folks buying food. Not being a lobster eater I told them I had $100 to spend on lobster tails. The gentleman very nicely packaged $100 worth of tails in several containers. Very painless. :-)

I hope that your son told you that you were the best mom after that! Seriously though, it was the least we could do to package those lobster tails up as painlessly as possible. I hope that you and your family enjoyed them! Hope to see you back soon, John M., Owner More

Great place for a summer lunch! Wonderful lobster roll! Casual to the max. Enjoy the salt air and the location. Nothing fancy--just good food.

You just painted the perfect picture with your descriptions of the salt air and the lobster roll -- I hope that your experience here was just as great! Can't wait to see you back here for more good times and good food. Best, John M., Owner More

James Hook has an amazing variety of fresh seafood. I love to go there when I'm making a diablo or casserole that requires an assortment of seafood. They also have frozen options, take-out and eat in. If you're in the downtown area, it's worth the walk (and the price) to try one of their seafood platters or lobster rolls.

It's always awesome to hear about the recipes that the seafood goes into -- I'm glad to hear that those diablos and casseroles are turning out great! Our doors are always open for you whenever you want to walk down. Hope to see you again soon, John M., Owner More

Loved this place. Facility is very small and "quaint". Not much seating, but the food is worth the stop. Service was quick and efficient. The lobster roll... oh my lord! So delicious. Between myself and the rest of my party we tried the lobster roll, lobster bisque, and shrimp and corn chowder and it was all amazing. If you are... More

Holy moly, what a great review! It's always wonderful to hear that kind of reaction about our food, especially the lobster rolls. I hope that the rest of your trip to Boston was great as well -- the next time that you come back, I'll be sure to have more rolls, bisque, and chowder stocked and ready to supply for... More

I love James Hook's lobster roll. It has to be one of the best lobster rolls in Boston, yummy! Their chowder are pretty good too. Don't go expecting great service or atmosphere. It is counter service and small tables crowded into a very small space. However, there are picnics tables outside in season and free parking, yes free parking on... More

Ramius, your point about service is concerning! We want to be taking great care of everyone who stops by our spot. If you've received anything but friendly and efficient service, please reach out to me directly so I can follow up with the appropriate people. We met friends at Hooks for a late afternoon get together. I had heard of the place but had never eaten there. We sat outside, it was the summer time, the weather was great how can you beat that for getting together with friends. You're making us miss the sweet, sweet summertime! Thank you for sharing what you thought with us and everyone else, though. Really, knowing that you enjoyed good food in good company at our place is the kind of thing that keeps us going. See you sometime soon? Sure hope so! Cheers, John M., Owner More

James Hook's lobster role may be the best one I've had anywhere in New England. It is chock full of lobster meat and has only a small amount of mayonnaise. It was a great lunch experience all around.

Gerry, that's a HUGE compliment. Thank you! You bet we're going to go heavy handed on the lobster! Glad you enjoyed. Hope to see you back for lunch sometime down the line! Take care, John M., Owner More
