We stopped here as it was listed on numerous websites as the best place to get a lobster roll in Boston. I can say that the reviews were spot on! I had several lobster rolls while in the New England area and there was definitely a difference between those and the one I had at James Hook. It was so... More

The lobsters in the tank and the lobster on the lobster roll were giant! Unfortunately, I didn't like the bread for the lobster roll. It was chewy and slightly cardboardy. Plus I didn't like the fact the bread wasn't toasted.

From Seattle. Wanted something that is truly local. Had lobster rolls at James Hook. Great local place. More expensive than McDonald's but worth it.

Had brunch with my girlfriend (partner is a business term!) ; the roll was beautifully soft and the crab and lobster was sweet and tasty. Anybody mentioning a lack of seasoning hasn't a clue what they are talking about, as shellfish that good doesn't need it so wise up people. The chowder was gorgeous. Again as in the title, so... Hopefully you will go on a nice sunny day do you can eat outside on the picnic tables. There are tables and chairs inside but they are so crammed together to allow for the human train to wind it's way through there to order. My husband and I got lobster rolls. It was his first trip to Boston and his... More

After a recent trip to Maine my expectations about lobster got higher. I tried to order lobster roll ($18) with no mayo or butter and it wasn't possible. This was already a bad sign. The lobster was varied in quality. There were good chunks of lobster mixed in with very bad ones. The mayo/butter is probably tried to hide this... More

I've walked past James Hook at least a hundred times but never had time to stop. On a recent Sunday stroll, James Hook Lobster Rolls were not going to be missed this time. There was a line from the counter, out the door. Thanks to their system of staff walking down the line to take orders, our wait was only... More

I have had many lobster rolls, in many places. Most are much more plush and upmarket places, but I do not think you will find a better roll. Not stuffed out with salad and other fillings, just a toasted roll full of wonderful fresh lobster as it should be.

Is the hype true? YES! This was the most delicious lobster roll ever. Simple, VERY fresh and worth the wait in line. Don't expect a fancy place or good service, but it is still worth it!

Very unassuming spot. No table service: pick up your stuff inside and you can eat outdoors or on a few indoor tables. But the food is great. Best lobster roll I've had in years. Boiled lobster is excellent. And do try their stuffed clams. I wish they had steamers also but that wasn't on the menu. You can pay a... More
