Several months ago I had the opportunity to visit Mela for lunch with a friend. This was my first Indian food experience and I went into it with some trepidation as I had heard that Indian food could be quite spicy. Having an open mind and curious as to what was it this exotic land of India had to offer... More

In a cute neighborhood and had good ambiance. I ordered a cocktail with coconut water and something else, it was orange in color, and it was seriously one of the best cocktails I've ever had. I ordered the butter chicken which was on special that day and it was amazing! I have tried to recreate at home and it is... More

I'm blown away by how much you loved our food and cocktails! The best you've ever had? What a compliment. I'm really glad you liked our spot, too. The butter chicken is one of my absolute favorites -- I'm sure yours turned out great. Looks like you're not from Asheville. We hope you'll get a change to come back next... More

Asheville is good stop if you are planning a trip to smokies / blue ridge from east. We decided to try "Mela" Indian Restaurant for dinner and we end up eating like crazy.. The food is simply fantastic especially lentil soup, naan etc. The service was ok. Somehow got a feeling that all american staff was kind of showing little... More

Rushike, it's concerning to hear that you feel like you received anything but friendly and attentive service. It's important that each and every one of our customers feels valued. I'm sincerely sorry if that wasn't portrayed during your visit. Please know that I'll be following up with the rest of the team. I'm happy you enjoyed all of the food... More

Good food, but not the best of the Indian food we've had. In our area (central NJ) there are many very good Indian restaurants and, while the papadum was the best I've had, our other dishes seemed to try to substitute spiciness for depth of flavor.

There was very limited dishes to choose from the day I visited. The naan bread was good, chicken butter was fine, saag n cauliflower was average. On next trip will try other Indian joints.

I wish we had offered you a more impressive experience during this past visit. Would you be up for trying a main dish off our menu next time? Either way, I appreciate you taking the time to share this. Thank you, Anoop, Owner More

Firstly I love the review by the guy who brags he's from NYC and infers this restaurant doesn't cut it. Well Matey I'm for the UK, we used run to India (and NYC after the Dutch) and in fact the word Curry is a British word- just like a lot of the recipes we enjoy in Europe and the states... More

Hi there! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on everything. Most of our recipes are my mom's and my family's. My mom was a chef back in the old country, and many of her dishes are what you'll find here at our place. While they do have a distinct taste, they are atypical of the sort of Indian dishes you... When we entered restaurant was apprehensive about quality as I saw non Indian staff but my god, all staff was well trained, helpful, courteous and fast in service. Decoration is also impressive. Food was one of the best.

I have eaten at Mela's many times while living in Asheville and it does not disappoint. My husband and I visited on Saturday, September 6 and the food (shrimp vindaloo and the tandoori chicken) was delicious. The cocktail was a perfect minty drink. The service was perfect as usual. This is a restaurant that is always good for a special... More
