It's not your typical Japanese restaurant! No hibachi and fried rice here! We went looking for good sushi and we found it. We were on a short weekend visit and this was recommended by the hotel. Easy to find and a short walk from the parking lot. We got there just before the crowd. It doesn't seat very many people,... More

I just got back from Japan and was missing some GOOD broth and udon noodles. My daughter, who lives in Asheville took us to Heiwa Shokudo one night when it was cold outside and a little drizzly. When we got there it was full so, they took our mobile phone number, said we could wait in our car and called... More

I've been to Japan 15 times and eaten at many Japanese restaurants in Japan and US. This is among the best. I had the large Sashimi special which was fresh and had a large variety. There was a lot of fish for the money. I had the 1/2 portion of Kitune Udon which was authentic and large for a 1/2... More

Title says it all. Me and my husband moved to Asheville from a city where we were used to eating top notch sushi and Heiwa is our go-to. Forget Wasabi, if you want fresh fish, this is the place for you. May not be up your alley if you like very americanized sushi on fancy plates but if you like... More

This is one of our favorite places for lunch in Asheville and it's because of the wonderfully delicious noodle soups. My husband always gets the Executive and I always order the Medicine Man udon soup. Fantastic flavors, awesome broth. Service can be hit of miss. We had a pleasant server on Friday. We look forward to our next visit to... More

I rounded down rather than up because the poor service really does put a damper to the experience. The food is good, but as others have said many of the servers are quite rude. We have be unlucky enough to get one server in particular who was very rude everytime we went in! The worst was her refusal to serve... More

The tuna poki at Heiwa is something I can't get enough of. The perfect salty vinegar mix with fresh advocado, red onion, and tomato with sushi grade tuna makes my mouth water every time. The staff are passionate about the food and the intimate setting makes for the perfect Asheville experience.

We were bustling along in a fashion appropriate to the chill factor, which was stirring somewhere around zero on this particularly nasty day. But we managed to find the handle to the door and whisk ourselves inside. Beautifully, as soon as we were seated, we were offered a choice of hot tea which we frantically accepted. Aaahhh, that warm water... More

My family loves this place. For many years we have gone to this restaurant on our trips to Asheville. This month my daughter and I took a weekend trip and actually ate here twice in one one weekend. We love the spicy garlic tofu and she had a roll made with sweet potato that was delicious! There is no ice... More

I read many of the other reviews and thought about my visit today. Yes, it's tiny. And don't expect to have a private conversation. That said, I consider it romantic. Yes, the service is a bit slow. You want quick, go elsewhere. But this is not a chain, and Heiwa is doggedly committed to offering truly authentic Japanese cuisine (although... More
