Description: While we revere the time-honored traditions of the Southern cook, you will find our take on the Southern plate a little different. Because Tupelo Honey Cafe is a little different. Our transformation of just about everything Southern - from fried chicken to sweet potatoes to catfish - is decidedly spirited, independent, and frequently unscripted. Creativity rules in our kitchen where our larder is filled with scratch-made, inventive goodness. We ratchet up our flavors so they're on par with the farm-fresh produce we love. And we serve it all with a healthy measure of fun - with our heartfelt promise of delivering an experience worthy of the memories that tend to be made around our table.

We showed up during a week day around 10:30 and the place was hopping. They have indoor and outdoor sitting. I wanted to sit outside but I figured we might as well take whatever table we could get. I started off by ordering the rosemary-peach lemonade and was surprised at how tarty and tasty it was all at the same... More

small, friendly, great food, one of a kind dishes. This is the kind of place you go to and chill. Staff was very friendly, met people at the next table shared about places to go.

It really is that good! I had a grilled cheese, tomato soup, fries, and brussel sprouts, all awesome. My husband ordered the fried chicken with biscuits and gravy, our excellent server recommended over easy eggs on top of all that, wow. So good. Wish we had more time to come back here for other meals.

After you've conquered parking (parallel & metered) in downtown Asheville and gotten over the Haight/Ashbury 60's throwbacks on every corner you'll find the Tupelo Honey Cafe's crowded, hectic atmosphere almost peaceful. We sat at the 'cooks counter' which is always fascinating and started with the 'popcorn' which happens to be the best fried ocra we've ever eaten (enough for 4),... More

This place is amazing! Gourmet, Southern cooking at reasonable prices. Long wait, no reservations but you can call 1 hour ahead of your arrival and get your name on the list. Expect to wait about another 30 minutes after you get there. May seem like a long time, but worth the wait.

We had dinner at Tupelo and really enjoyed it. The food was fresh and different - recipes were much different than the norm. The flavors jumped almost jumped off the dish and were a pleasure to enjoy. I had the chicken saltimbocci (probably not spelling it right!) with the cheese onion bisque soup. Both were great, but the soup needed... More

If I had been in a hurry, I would have been quite irritated about our server forgetting to submit our order to the kitchen and my having to go down the street to feed more quarters into the parking meter. Otherwise, the service was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the "Eggs Betty" and the "Shoo-mercy Omelette". Both were generously proportioned... More

I visited this restaurant on a recent trip to Asheville and was very impressed. When we arrived there was a long line for a table so we opted for a seat at the bar. This worked out well for us, we had a view of the kitchen and had fun watching the staff prepare the food. They put on quite... More

OK, you may have heard Tupelo Honey is riding on its reputation and there are better places to go than this "tourist trap." Don't listen to that kind of talk. This place has earned its reputation as a haven for those who love Souther cooking. It had been at least 5 years since I'd last gone to Tupelo Honey and... More

Dinner Monday evening was a combination of a very nice place to have dinner, with a choice of inside or outside seating. By chance, there was a street musician just outside who was pretty good, and added a lot to the evening. Service was efficient and very friendly -- Darian was the Server, and he was good. So, all in all,... More
