Nice atmosphere, but small

I was passing through on the way to Greensboro with my mom and 6 year old daughter when we asked Siri for places to eat. It was Friday and Lent so this place sounded promising for seafood. The parking lot only hold four cars and the area of town seems to be midway through a revitalization. The... read more

My wife and I have had drinks and eaten here six times in the last year. Every time has been top of the line. On weekends they can book up so we arrive early 5-6 pm, sit at the bar (outside when the weather permits) have a drink (no reservations needed for the bar) and order our meal at our... More

We found the food here surprising bland. The food was very pricy for the quality and quantity. Cheese plate $18 four cheeses, I'd say about 1-1 1/2 oz of each. With chutney and almonds to pair. Little hard bread slices. Probably the tastiest thing we had. $9 Bibb lettuce salad with pomegranate dressing and smoked egg. Great dressing! About five... More

Eating at The Admiral requires a little planning, making reservations a few days in advance ... or just dumb luck getting one for the same day. But, it's a neighborhood gem and well worth the effort! Outside it's a bland, nondescript place you would easy walk past, and likely dismiss, unless you knew of it or had been there before.... More

We were excited to visit The Admiral for the first time after hearing amazing things and making weekday reservations, but we left extremely disappointed. The food was very pricey, which was expected but the portions were so tiny. The flavors were unique and tasty but it was less food than a normal appetizer would have and wasn't worth the price.... My wife and I decided to go after reading some reviews on trip advisor. We did not have reservations but luckily they were able to seat us at the bar, which i think added to the experience. We ordered the oysters, shortribs, chicken pot pie, scallops, and the ribeye. We shared them all and they were all top notch dishes.... More

we were told repeatedly that our snagging a same-day reservation to The Admiral was unheard of........just lucky I guess! Ignore what you see as you arrive-from the exterior the restaurant is SO unimpressive you might think you are at an incorrect address. Once seated, our meals were simply outstanding! Among our choices: PEI mussels, duck breast, fine wine and pork... More

We were surprised and delighted last year when The Admiral had a last-minute cancellation for our preferred time for their special New Year's Eve dinner. After the amazing 4-course meal, my daughter and I agreed that it was probably the best meal we'd ever had in either of our lives, and the music, atmosphere, wait staff, and other guests made... I wanted to love this place. It's appointed so well, such a neat concept of delicious upscale food in an environment that is comfortable for today's hipster- Never made me feel like I was not deserving of being there. Unfortunately, the appearance is where the charm stopped. Our waiter never cracked a smile. Our food took a month of sundays... More
