Amazing food, small portions

It has been almost a year since I, my wife, son, and daughter ate at The Admiral, the lamb, gnocchi, scallops and pork chop were fantastic and the service was extremely good. The portions on the meals are very small. We are definitely not big eaters either, in fact, with an average weight of... read more

We had made a reservation one week ahead through the restaurant website. It linked to Open Table. We got to The Admiral and there was a sign on the door saying they had no power and no way to contact people with reservations. I feel they could have gone somewhere with power and accessed reservations through Open Table. We have... More

My wife and I went to the Admiral on a Saturday night in July. We had a 7:15 reservation and Uber dropped us off right on time. We were promptly seat and immediately noticed that a lot had changed. What used to look like a dive bar both inside and out, now had a redone interior. We hadn't been in... More

This place is very popular with locals. Parking is a problem in a seedy neighborhood. Its popularity and bare interior make the place very noisy. However, the food, especially the steak and scallops, is delicious. Service friendly but staff is overworked.

This place is all about good food. Don't let the outside fool you. My husband and I were in Asheville overnight and a friend of his recommended going here. It's almost like tapas with mostly small plates. We loved everything, especially the lamb and whole grilled fish

We were 2 1/2 months with our reservations. Make sure you have reservations and are there at the time of, too many people will be willing to take them. We had to coordinate 4 schedules to get the date. We had driven by the area on a trip to Asheville, just to be sure we could find it. We were... More

Flavorful bites that are remarkably composed! Descriptions of dishes will fail because of the complexity of flavors. The exterior appearance would discourage but enter to a diner like atmosphere--booths and tables with a few seats at the bar. Waitress was efficient with great descriptions of dishes. We ate from the first and second sections and shared a collection of small... More

Asheville resident here who brought some business visitors to the Admiral for an early dinner. The restaurant helped accommodate our 5 person group into a 4 person reservation after our dinner party unexpectedly grew. We enjoyed the Thai curry mussels and grilled scallop small plates, and then we all had either the ribeye with twice baked potatoes, asparagus and pimento... More

Inventive. Sophisticated. Most importantly--delicious. Have been hearing about and trying to eat here for ages. Finally managed to plan enough ahead to get a res on this trip. Wow, is all I can say. Everything we had was wonderful: skewered sweetbreads (best EVER); mussels w/cilantro in coconut milk; arugula salad; duck "abobo" (ginger, sesame seeds, soy sauce); rack of lamb;... More
