Didn't expect German Food

We didn't expect German Food in Asheville but were pleasantly surprised. There were portions the size of Bavaria, good beer, German breads, and a friendly staff. It was not Germany but we were quite pleased.

I have been coming to this restaurant a couple of times a year since 2008 and I had never had bad food until this last visit. The fresh German bread has been replaced with frozen pretzel bread, the once flavorful German potato salad now just tastes like it came out of the box, and the sauerkraut is taken from a... More

For one thing, we do cook from scratch. We can no longer get the bread we used to get, as the German bakery out of Canada is building a new facility. Until that is done, we cannot offer the bread. We cannot make sauerkraut per governmental regulations as of January 2015. We have to come up with documentation as to... More

The Bavarian Restaurant and Biergarten, near Weaverville, is not your usual German eatery. I am used to the standard, tasty German menu - four or five wursts, rotkraut, sauerkraut, sauerbraten, kartoffelsalat, etc. I have eaten my way through the entire menu of my favorite local German restaurant several times. However, eating through the Bavarian Restaurant menu would take me the... More

An unexpected find along Merrimon - not your typical restaurant. Food and atmosphere is authentic and great but (pricey). If you are a beer drinker, this is a must-do.

What a cute little place. Much smaller than I had expected. I had rouladen and hubby had sauerbraten. Reminded me of my mothers dishes.

Owned by a German but far, far from authentic. Iffy service, long wait for food. Try Berliner Kindl in Black Mountain for real German cuisine that's always constant and "sehr, sehr gut!"

Please let me know when it is you were there, and was your server a male or female? We have made some changes so that things are picking up. More

Had dinner here with a large group and the service was very good given the large group we had. Food was reasonably good and typical German/Austrian food. Menu has a good variety and service was fairly quick given the large group.

We stumbled across this place as it was a part of a package with the log cabins we stayed at near by. We had a great time! Food and service was great despite being short staffed and very busy. Server and manager went out of their way to make sure we were well taken care off. Bread, pretzels, and schnitzels... More

Our waiter was very friendly until we gave him a $4.00 tip. There were only me and my wife at the table. We spent 70.00 on the meal and waited quite a while for him to bring our bill and pay so we could leave. We watched people stand for about ten minutes to be seated and one couple finally... More

I am sorry about your experience at our restaurant. I am not sure what happened the evening you were there. I am usually there at all times, and this doesn't sound like anything that would or should have happened there. Could you let me know the exact date? First, I would like to speak with the chef who was working... More
