Best Hot & Sour Soup

Great family run restaurant. You can't find a nicer guy than Tony, the owner. I've been living in China and Asia for 8 years since I was a regular there many years ago. He still remembered me and we spoke a little Mandarin about some mainland China food. The prices are good and the food and service... read more

Super tasty food with a nice selection of veg and tofu dishes. I ate the whole serving of tofu w/ garlic sauce and the empress chicken disappeared from the plate. The food tasted fresh and came with hot tea, bonus! The restaurant was very clean and service was very efficient and the booths were comfortable. A nice meal and super... More

I love Chinese food, and the sweet-sour chicken and pork and General Tso's chicken are my favorites. The potstickers, crab rangoons and egg drop soup are very tasty. The drinks are okay, but their signature "Aku Aku Bowl" is so good. A few different citrus juices and rums make this the tastiest drink ever. Available on fire or not. Great... More

This trip was the second time I've eaten here (the first time was last year) and both times the food was delicious. My kids loved the food too. The portions are generous. I was surprised to find such a tasty Chines meal in a small town. The only downside was that service was a bit slow (not terrible though) because... More

Being that my dad is always on the lookout for Chinese places to try, no matter how small, dingy, remote, or seemingly Americanized, we decided to stop in on our way to Black Canyon. It had been two days or so since we had had anything "Chinese", and while I was OK with that, he wasn't. His craving level must... More

Although the food was average, the fact that the 'silverware', glasses and cups appeared to be covered with water stains was very distracting. Also, the carpeting needed cleaning from rice and other foods. I couldn't bring myself to drink water from the glass and asked for new wood chopsticks to eat with rather than use the fork and spoons provided.... More

This was our third choice for a meal our first evening in Gunnison, having found a highly recommended restaurant (the Gunnisack) closed, then having waited for seating at an understaffed steak house across the street from the Gunnisack so long that we gave up and left. After the excellent meal we received at the House of China, my wife and... More

The owner does the cooking. I look forward to stopping there each time I am in Gunnison. The hot and sour soup is great. The food is good and plentiful. Lunchtime prices are low. Its hard to beat this combination of good food and good price.

I've eaten numerous times at this family run Chinese restaurant and especially like the portion size and value for above average oriental food during lunch service. I usually order "triple delight" (sauteed chicken, beef, and shrimp w/vegetables) which is also served with egg drop or hot/sour soup, a small egg roll (OK to skip), a cream cheese fried wonton, and...
