We live in the community and had not eaten here. After a busy day full with holiday events, we decided to have dinner at the Canal House and are glad that we did. We had the Yorkshire Pudding and Beef Stew which was delicious! My son and I started our meal with the homemade tomato soup which had fresh herbs... More

The local cuisine is fantastic! Everyone was satisfied with their meals, including my one year old cousin who had steamed veggies (thanks to the staff for accommodating that request!). I highly recommend Canal House to locals and visitors! Please note, this is not a place to stop if you are in a hurry. The food is fresh and cooked to... More

We liked the feel of this restaurant as soon as we (4 of us) walked in and we were expecting to love the food as well based on others reviews. I don't know if it was an off night but we were all disappointed. The vegetarian entry was the best of what we had so maybe sticking to vegetarian dishes... More

The food was delicious, and fresh, but slightly overpriced. Still a good place to try. We liked the healthy food options and how fresh everything was. I had a veggie wrap and my husband had a quinoa salad. It was very quaint with a lot of character.

As a native of Jefferson County, I was pleasantly surprised to find this charming place and that I'd never heard of it. Once a month, I plan a girls' night out, and try to do so by choosing a non-chain, local restaurant to support. I loved the "BYOB" aspect. We brought a couple of bottles of wine to share. The... We were fortunate to select Canal House as our last dinning spot before leaving the area after a 3 day visit. Fresh, local ingredients were served up in tasty dishes everyone in our party enjoyed. The appetizers we ordered were especially wonderful but not out-done by the entrees of beef, chicken and lasagna. Sadly, our group of four lives (for... More

Very good, tasty fresh food, not a huge selection on the menu, but sufficient. Nice, quaint atmosphere, wood burning fireplace, cozy, only a few tables, street view, friendly staff. Beef stew and lasagna were delicious. A bit pricey for dinner--$16.00-$20.00 average price. no alcohol served BYO

We had lunch here on our first day in Harper's Ferry and we were not disappointed. We ordered the cheese appetizer and four different meals between all of us and everyone was happy with the food. The portions were perfect, the flavors rich and the service exceptional!

My wife and I decided on a whim to spend a gorgeous fall late October weekend in the Shepherdstown-Harper's Ferry, W VA area. Her dinner decision for us for Saturday evening was based on her finding out that at Canal House we could reserve the sole table on a romantic open air private balcony for a custom "off-the-menu" prix fixe... After reading several reviews, we decided to dine at Canal House (top rated restaurant in Harpers Ferry). We were very disappointed. The restaurant is an old house with several dining rooms furnished with mismatched tables and chairs - which was cute. The server touted the "local, fresh" ingredients - which was fine. We decided to split a dinner salad and... More

We are terribly sorry about your experience. We were perhaps overly enthusiastic about our pumpkin carving this year and it seems the jack-o-lantern on the mantle piece attracted fruit flies, explaining this nuisance. All of our carved pumpkins are now outside! Please email the restaurant with the total of your bill, and if possible the time on your receipt and... More
