I stopped at Canal House on my bike journey from DC to Pittsburgh. I was staying about a half mile away and this was one of the closest dining establishments. I arrived at 9, their closing time, but they readily agreed to seat and serve me. I wish all restaurants were this accommodating. I had an excellent crab soup to... More

I loved the old Canal House, so I was very happy to see that the new management is carrying on the tradition of fresh, local, healthy food service. The dining area has been reconfigured and is very pleasant. I ordered a veggie sandwich on gluten-free bread. The bread was not on the menu but the chef was happy to accommodate... More

First visit since owners changed; coworker recommended so we took our guest and we were all pleased. Friendly, quick service at lunch. Yummy food. I had their pasta special; flavorful and different. Others had the blt and john brown--and liked them. Easy checkout. I'll be back!

We were actually shocked by the unique and amazing mix of flavors this master chef concocted. The hummus was unique and delicious--nothing like we ever had before. The quinoa salad was a fantastic mix of sweet and sour flavors. Delicious. The main course was a green pepper stuffed with white beans and rice with a touch of spicy heat that... More

My husband took me here for lunch today, and we very much enjoyed our entire experience. Food was excellent, outdoor seating was perfect, and service was friendly and kind! They get many of their ingredients from local shops or farms, which I always like to see. Definitely try it out, but be sure of the hours before you go, as... More

My turkey club sandwich on a baguette-style bread was only so-so, but my wife's tuna sandwich was excellent. Side salads very small (they come with the sandwiches). Menu is really for lunch only--most sandwiches and salads. But the full salads looked excellent. No alcohol served here, but you can BYOB from the liquor store about 1/4 mile north of the... More

From the outside it is a cute building. Parking is a bit tricky. We ended up driving down the side street and parking in a lot behind some other building since the Canal House only has space for 1 or 2 vehicles in front. The interior is cottagey, eclectic - I loved it! Loved the canal picture in black and... More

I was going to give this place an average rating but I was really impressed with the way they handled a slight problem so I rated them higher. We were here for lunch and I had the tuna sandwich which was good. My husband had the turkey club and he was not that impressed. I think the main problem was... More

The beet salad with goat cheese and walnuts was great; very cute atmosphere, good service, and dog-friendly (on the patio!)
